Job Title: Math and Literacy SpecialistDate: August 2022Reports to: Youth Enrichment Director and Branch Executive DirectorFLSA Status: Part Time Non-Exempt Leadership Level: Team LeaderPrimary Department: Before and After School Enrichment
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. This position is responsible for managing and administering child care programs at designated YMCA program locations. This responsibility includes supervising child care staff, creating and/or supporting the implementation of appropriate lesson plan intervention, and maintaining site records, and additional programs responsibilities to ensure state licensure compliance and overall effective program management. Requires travel to and from branch locations for assigned duties, trainings, or meetings, or work programs in other areas as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
  1. Design and implement math and literacy lesson plans.
  2. Communicate with the YMCA and school personnel and parents of children regarding reading levels and rate of progress.
  3. Comply with all ODJFS state licensing, Step Up to Quality, and YMCA and school district standards for all programs.
  4. Gather and compile data; and link that data to student learning and instruction and success.
  5. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials, and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
  6. Work with other Youth Enrichment Director and other staff members to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods according to the district requirements.
  7. Implement the use of technology to strengthen the teaching/learning process.
  8. Help students analyze and improve study methods and habits.
  9. Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of the YMCA and the school district.
  10. Manage student behavior in accordance with YMCA policies.
  11. Assist in selection of books, equipment, and other instructional materials.
  12. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
  13. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.
  14. Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
  15. Attend and participate in YMCA meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  16. Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Previous experience working in a classroom setting.
  • Previous experience with diverse populations preferred.
  • ODJFS: Must qualify under ODJFS stipulations to be a site administrator, Career Pathways Level (CPL) 3 or higher and/or School Age Endorsement Certification required
  • Must be able to provide a copy of High school diploma, a completed medical form (JFS 01296) and undergo a BCI/FBI background check prior to first day of work.
  • Certifications in CPR, First Aid, Communicable Disease and Child Abuse Prevention are required to be obtained within 90 days of hire.
  • Must maintain professionalism and have strong communication, organization and administrative skills
  • Must believe in YMCA's philosophy and mission and be willing to teach, model and implement character development values
  • Must be flexible and take initiative as well as maintain a positive and professional attitude
