R&D Strategic Growth Initiatives Director (New Health Care Company)

The Impact You’ll Make in this Role
The person hired for the position of SpinCo Health Care R&D Growth Initiatives Director will be responsible for leading enterprise Growth Initiatives for the R&D function. This includes advancing Spinco’s commercialization process and reporting, fostering strategic external partnerships and government funding opportunities, supporting functional strategic plan development, and supporting special programs.
As a R&D Growth Initiatives Director, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:
  • Lead R&D strategic initiatives team comprised of commercialization excellence, technology driven market insight, and external R&D partnership.
  • Drive improvements in commercialization process, systems, and metrics reporting to increase rigor, speed, and agility.
  • Lead the strategic planning process for HCBG R&D according to the corporate process and timeline, ensuring alignment across all stakeholders, develop framework for strategic portfolio roadmaps and oversee core slide preparation in support of the SVP or HCBG R&D.
  • Partner with government affairs to identify, pursue funding opportunities to advance clinical science for prioritize portfolios and engaging externally with peer companies and thought leaders across the industry to benchmark and build partnerships.
  • Perform technical market research and create client and competitor stories using input from technical leaders, sales, clients and market problem statements.
  • Consult, advise, and influence local and global teams on insights, innovation, and commercialization methodologies, usage, and interpretation.
  • Provide strong knowledge of cutting-edge innovation science, customer insights methodologies, and innovation and commercialization practices using a broad array of current and new methodologies - quantitative and qualitative.
  • Partner with leadership and other stakeholders to identify R&D strategic initiatives, managing interdependencies across strategic initiatives and subsequent program priorities.
  • Lead the operationalization and governance of strategic R&D initiatives and priorities and accelerating decision making and resolving barriers to program success.
Your Skills and Expertise
To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution
  • Fifteen (15) years of combined product development and/or business development experience in a private, public, government, or military environment
  • Ten (10) years of supervisory experience
Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:
  • Advanced degree in engineering, science, technology management, or business administration from an accredited institution
  • Seven (7) years of medical device or Health Care experience
  • Experience leading cross-functional global teams to identify organizational and workflow challenges; and lead change and improvement outcomes aligned with the vision, strategy, and priorities
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills with ability to influence in a matrix environment and prepare presentations for executive management
  • Customer-/client-centric mindset combined with contagious enthusiasm and passion
  • Demonstrated ability to engage and lead groups. Very strong interpersonal and team building skills

This range represents a good faith estimate for this position.
