What Your Job Will Be Like We are seeking a R&D General Technologist to join our team supporting a range of projects related to our national security missions. The primary responsibility of this individual will be working closely with a team of scientists and engineers to manage materials' data processing and documentation updates.

The outcome of your work will directly impact Sandia's ability to design, build, test, and deploy new hardware for Nuclear Deterrent and other national security programs. On any given day, you may be called on to: Collaborate across Sandia and other NNSA sites to manage materials' property data Prepare and track documentation packets for material specification updates needed for production of hardware Interface with engineers and scientists, stakeholders, and external partners to provide status and schedule updates on new or legacy material specifications Work with a team to review material property data Quality and understand data storage needs Develop, test, and validate importers for uploading materials property data to a materials property database Use your knowledge of materials science/engineering to help experimentalists develop and manage data acquisition Due to the nature of the work, the selected applicant must be able to work onsite. Qualifications We Require Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) field, or equivalent combination of education and/or experience Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) as demonstrated by a record of written communication and data presentations Able to acquire and maintain a DOE Q-level security clearance Qualifications We Desire Bachelor's degree in chemistry, materials science, mechanical engineering, chemical engineering, or similar field Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office Suite Experience with business intelligence/analytics software such as PowerBI or Tableau Experience with databases, laboratory information management, or material data management Experience with data formats such as XML, JSON, or CSV Experience with regular expressions (RegEx) Experience with Python About Our Team The Polymers and Composites Department develops processes, builds prototypes, and deploys hardware in support of mission activities at Sandia National Laboratories and partners.

We specialize in adhesives, encapsulants, foams, paints and coatings, plus carbon fiber and glass-reinforced composite materials. Our team is also responsible for retaining the technical competency for legacy materials used throughout Sandia. Our staff of scientists and engineers work closely with other departments to understand and improve materials found in a myriad of applications and environments.

We routinely employ advanced manufacturing techniques to supplement traditional subtractive or machining practices. Our applications include components and widgets deployed in extreme thermal, mechanical or electrical environments. We rely on extensive historical knowledge and experiences to make decisions but push the boundary of possibilities through creative thinking, experimentation, and sound application of the scientific method.

Security Clearance Sandia is required by DOE to conduct a pre-employment drug test and background review that includes checks of personal references, credit, law enforcement records, and employment/education verifications.

and another country), your ability to obtain a security clearance may be impacted. Applicants offered employment with Sandia are subject to a federal background investigation to meet the requirements for access to classified information or matter if the duties of the position require a DOE security clearance. Substance abuse or illegal drug use, falsification of information, criminal activity, serious misconduct or other indicators of untrustworthiness can cause a clearance to be denied or terminated by DOE, resulting in the inability to perform the duties assigned and subsequent termination of employment.

Position Information This Limited Term Employee (LTE) position is a temporary position for one year term, which may be renewed at Sandia's discretion up to a maximum of seven years. Individuals in LTE positions may bid on regular Sandia positions as internal candidates, and in some cases may be converted to regular career positions during their term if warranted by ongoing operational needs, continuing availability of funds, and satisfactory job performance.
