Job Description
Primary Responsibilities:
- Branded Ingredient Development/Commercialization.
- Lead R&D substantiation and evaluation of ingredients through the New Ingredient/Vendor
- Qualification Standard Operating Procedure.
- Have a keen understanding of the businesses and commercialization of branded ingredients i.e., supplements, food, beverage, and pet industries.
- Analyze market trends (consumer behavior, market segmentation, competitor positioning, etc.) and emerging demands to propose potential new product concepts.
- Present new product design concepts, benefits and advantages, potential applications.
- Work with formulations to develop potential applications for food, beverage, and nutrition markets.
- Lead end-to-end projects to develop new or improved products in a cross-functional environment with agility.
- Identify and evaluate potential new ingredients and manage end to end to launch as part of our
- product offering.
- Manage material, document, market data, pricing, etc. review for research and new product development.
- Conduct experiments to evaluate new ingredients/formulations.
- Collaborate to develop commercialization strategy, go-to-market plan, and support sales activities for new products.
- Collaborate with Marketing on content and data required for sell sheets, presentations, publications, etc. for various tradeshows, social media postings, events, meetings, etc.
Sales Team Support:
- Support our sales team in learning about branded ingredients and the product portfolio, what differentiates our product offerings and an overview of the competitive landscape.
- Assist our sales team with customer-facing presentations.
- Understand customer needs and use these insights to support solution design, pipeline development and technical strategies.
- Promote new product concepts and technologies to existing and potential customers.
- Partner with sales teams to build a strong R&D project pipeline by identifying and shaping new opportunities.
- Develop close working relationships with new customers or underdeveloped existing customers.
- Lead customer specific R&D projects and provide technical expertise and support to develop high-quality, cost-effective solutions. Independently track project progression.
General R&D Lab Management:
- Establish laboratory SOPs, testing methodologies, ingredient specifications and prototyping procedures to ensure a safe and sanitized testing and R&D environment.
- Assist achieving industry recognized certifications
- Knowledge or organizational effectiveness and team collaboration to work as an effective team member
- Communicate with 3rd party or internal Quality Control labs while analyzing and organizing test results
Ideal Candidate:
- Education: Bachelors or Master’s degree in food science, nutritional science, chemistry, material science, food engineering and/or development related area(s) of study.
- Food industry experience.
- Food formulation experience and understanding of food systems, ingredient interactions andfunctionality required. Sound knowledge of food science, food chemistry, food microbiology, and food processing and engineering.
- Strong nutrition, technical, scientific, and regulation background with passion in food, beverage, nutrition industry.
- Knowledge and understanding of protein characterization methodologies and continued updating of new methods.
- Experienced in presenting branded ingredients to various technical knowledge levels and end users
- Understands customer/market trends, needs, commercialization processes and success measures, to better develop and position solutions that have real impact.
- Thinks creatively, analytically, and holistically, employing innate curiosity to explore problems and generate impactful solutions internally and externally.
- Clearly and logically plans projects, follows processes and procedures, supports technical trials, analyzes large amounts of data to define the critical issues and make recommendations.
