AddressMagsorbeo Biomedical is looking for a research & development ENGINEERING INTERN to join our team for a twelve-week period lasting from May to August 2024. The internship requires 40 hours of on-site work per week in East Lansing, MI.
The ideal candidate will have base-level knowledge in MATERIALS SCIENCE and materials testing and be enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Materials Science and Engineering (or similar). Our paid R&D ENGINEERING INTERNship provides an opportunity for a student to gain practical experience with metal alloy development and testing techniques, specifically in bioabsorbable magnesium for use in medical implants. The intern will work with a team of engineers to design and develop laboratory test methods and test and develop our proprietary magnesium alloy, Curasorb.
Responsibilities
- Lab Set-up:
- Assist the lab manager with setting up new lab equipment and establishing Operation, Maintenance & Calibration (OMC) documents.
- Aid in immersion corrosion test method development.
- Process Development:
- Support process development of Mg alloy and devices by executing testing.
- Document lab work and compile reports.
- Product Development
- Prototype and evaluate implants to be used in preclinical studies.
- Maintain a clean, organized work area.
- Follow all safety policies and operate in a safe manner.
- On-site presence is essential and necessary.
Requirements
- Enrolled in undergraduate or graduate degree program in Materials Science and Engineering or a related field.
- Preferred: Experience executing materials testing in a lab-setting.
- Basic proficiency with Microsoft office suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
