R&D Engineer

As an R&D Engineer, you will contribute significantly to technology and product development projects by identifying and implementing innovative solutions. As a member of the Systems and Electrical team, this individual will be responsible to develop, enhance and validate new technology modules according to the most advanced technology available, in order to satisfy the mission critical power protection product market specification.

Your responsibilities

• Critical member of the Systems and Electrical team, Work within a multidisciplinary team to develop world class mission critical power protection equipment
• Performs a variety of complex technology and engineering assignments using advanced and innovative techniques
• Design and Simulate power electronic subsystems for mission critical power protection applications
• R&D context maintains awareness of state-of-art technology, as well as ABB products and technologies, identifies and understands technical drivers for R&D projects in own area. Understands what creates customer value in own R&D projects and project portfolio of own organization and works to improve operations and increase customer satisfaction according to incoming requests. Provides consulting services to business operations and customers
• Generate technical drawings of systems, components, and interfaces based on inputs provided by others
• Generate power and control wire harness design documentation based on inputs provided by others
• Engineering support of manufacturing and building activities
• Provides sustaining engineering support for existing products
• Creates customer facing documentation such as user manuals, technical data sheets

Your background

• B.S. in Electrical Engineering (BSEE) required.
• 2 years’ experience with engineering design software, such as Altium, AutoCAD, eCAD
• Experience in digital and analog circuit design and simulation
• Experience with PCB design (high speed communication board, Power Board, etc., ) preferred
• Comprehensive knowledge of ECN’s (Engineering Change Notifications), BOM’s (Bill of Materials), and documentation systems
• Experience with DSPs (Digital Signal Processors), microcontrollers, and programmable logic devices a plus
• Experience with low voltage power semiconductor selection (IGBTs, MOSFET’s, and Diodes), gate drive and protection a plus
• Knowledge in environmental, reliability, and safety requirements for Commercial or Industrial products a plus
• Solid research experience of getting ideas from concepts to prototypes preferred.
• Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US
