Description

The EHS Specialist will plan, organize, and supervise the day-to-day lab operations to identify, evaluate and assess probability and severity of risks. Implement environmental, health, and safety programs and communicate these programs to ensure compliance. This position will work with lab management and the EHS department to maintain compliance with company policies and all applicable regulatory standards.

 

Primary Responsibilities

  • Lead and foster proactive safety programs, procedures, and culture.
  • Identify, assess, and effectively mitigate Environmental, Health, & Safety (EHS) risks.
  • Develop and enhance laboratory policies and procedures and ensure compliance with EHS standards and regulations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to eliminate or mitigate risks.
  • Conduct comprehensive site risk assessments, audits, and EHS inspections to maintain a safe working environment.
  • Analyze injury/incident data and perform root cause analysis to implement preventative measures.
  • Lead safety meetings, fostering open communication and knowledge sharing.
  • Support, develop, and drive projects to advance safety within MonoSol R&D.
  • Ensure proper management and safe disposal of all chemicals/materials in the laboratory (hazardous, special, non-hazardous wastes, and other wastes).
  • Serve as the Chemical Hygiene Officer (CHO) for the laboratory site, overseeing all chemical-related activities, updating as necessary, and training the rest of the R&D team with all things related to the Chemical Hygiene Plan.
  • Control all incoming chemicals and outgoing products and processes to ensure a safe work environment in the lab and before commercial production.
  • Collaborate with building security for the fire drills and medical emergency responses to ensure safe and effective response.

Qualifications

  • 5 Years safety responsibility experience in an R&D laboratory environment.
  • Bachelor’s degree in: Chemistry, Safety Management, Engineering, or technically related field required.
  • Experience with manufacturing principles and processes such as TPM, Lean, 6-Sigma, and 5S preferred.
  • Must be willing to be on call and respond to on-site incidents or accidents outside of normal work hours periodically.
  • Occasional meetings at other MonoSol facilities in Indiana (Portage, Duneland, Lebanon and LaPorte).

 

Physical Location: Chicago, IL (expected Q3 2024 – beyond); Merrillville, IN (present – Q3 2024).
