Job Description:
Indorama Integrated Oxides & Derivatives is currently looking for a dynamic individual to work in our Energy & Resources team as an R&D Chemist I located at our The Woodlands, Texas facility. In this role, you will be responsible to work with Research Scientists and R&D Managers to evaluate new chemistries, processes, and applications related to Indorama oilfield products. Must be able to work independently in a laboratory environment on directed experiments and on small to medium projects in our oilfield lab. All work must be performed in a safe manner and in accordance with Indorama guidelines, policies, and procedures. The lab work includes performing chemistry in glassware reactors, running analytical instrumentation, and testing materials in oilfield applications. Must be able to track projects, keep up with records and documentation, maintain equipment, and keep a clean and safe laboratory. Job level dependent on requisite experience in the R&D and the oilfield market.

- Maintain an awareness of the literature and other sources of information to remain current with developments in the area of functional products of interest to the Corporation.
- Work to complete projects in the US project pipeline.
- Set up and execute laboratory work to meet both internal and external customer expectations.
- Fully competent Chemist In all aspects requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Requires sufficient professional experience to understand new approaches to problems and situations.
- Work in small to medium projects around their lab focus area to attend clients’ needs in terms of application, processes, or chemistries.
- Set up and run small to medium experiments independently in line with R&D scientist direction.
- Analyzing samples by analytical methods or applications testing.
- Keep neat and orderly notebooks containing a record of all work performed. Maintain other records as necessary to support patent applications for innovative products.
- Maintain orderly laboratory space.
- Follow all safety and training requirements and perform all work in a safe manner.
- Ability to operate various pieces equipment for synthesis, analysis, or applications testing.
- Full understanding of the uses and applications of Indorama’s products and fully supporting our Research Scientists.
- Performs routine chemistry assignments requiring application of standard techniques and procedures and limited exercise of judgment. Assistance is readily available.
- Fully competent Chemist In all aspects requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, adaptation and modification of standard techniques, procedures, and criteria.
- Devise new approaches to problems and situations without any type of supervision.
- Support R&D Lab Manager by properly managing the lab resources.
- Manage and optimize all process under your responsibility taking into consideration Quality, Legality and Food Safety (if applicable) and client needs on Indorama’s products and services.
- Interact with R&D team to improve the lab, lab methods, etc., and other internal and external clients appropriately, as needed.
What are we looking for in the ideal candidate?
- BS in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Material Science, Biochemistry, or Polymer Chemistry/Engineering required. Or Associate degree with 5+ years in Research laboratory work.
- 3-10 years’ experience (more 10 years’ experience preferred) in: R&D laboratory preferred.
- Surfactants and oilfield chemistry knowledge in laboratory or application use strongly preferred.
- Experience in oilfield formulation and application testing preferred.
- Synthesis experience strongly preferred.
- Computer literacy w/ databases, word processing, spreadsheets.
- Excellent organizational and communications skills.
- Demonstrated presentation skills preferred.
- Experience in analytical techniques preferred.
