As a Family Consultant, you will be a crucial part of our team, providing consultation, care planning assistance, and support services to caregivers and families facing the complexities of caring for brain-impaired adults. You will coordinate respite services, facilitate support groups, and engage in data collection and tracking. Join us in furthering our mission to help families and communities master the challenges of caring for adults with brain disorders through programs and services that address the emotional, physical, and financial needs of family caregivers.


Position: Family Consultant II-III

Rate of Pay: $32.38 to $48.31 per hour (Depending on Qualifications)

Hours: 40 hours per week

POSITION DESCRIPTION

POSITION TITLE:
FAMILY CONSULTANT I – III

PROGRAM/DEPARTMENT:
REDWOOD CAREGIVER RESOURCE CENTER (RCRC)

REPORTS TO:
PROGRAM DIRECTOR OR FAMILY CONSULTANT III

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
LEVEL II-III, AS ASSIGNED

FLSA/IWA STATUS:
LEVEL I, NON-EXEMPT; LEVEL II-III, EXEMPT


POSITION OVERVIEW


Under general direction of their supervisor, provides consultation, care planning assistance and support services to caregivers and families of brain-impaired adults, and coordinates respite services for a designated caseload. Additional responsibilities include facilitation of support groups and data collection and tracking. This position requires an average or above skill level in the use of standard office technology, and a high level of professionalism and confidentiality.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Conduct comprehensive assessments (in-home, by phone, and by videoconference), and care planning in partnership with family caregivers.
  • Lead education and skill-building training for caregivers on such topics as self-care and stress reduction, managing challenging dementia-related behaviors, family dynamics, and effective communication techniques.
  • Provide short-term counseling, as appropriate, in accordance with California Caregiver Resource Center counseling protocol (qualified level III Family Consultant).
  • Use electronic record system to accurately document all client service units and notes for funding and research reports.
  • Initiate respite and other authorized services and track utilization using established protocol.
  • Initiate outreach and deliver effective presentations to community organizations and caregiver groups.
  • Participate in professional development in-services and outside trainings as appropriate to keep current with aging, disability, and caregiving best practices.
  • Outreach to individuals and organizations who might benefit from the services of Redwood Caregiver Resource Center.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a team on agency-wide initiatives.
  • Supervision duties may be assigned to a qualified Level III Family Consultant, as appropriate.
  • Maintain consistent and punctual attendance, and participate in meetings, training sessions, and conferences as required.
  • Stay current on and comply with all relevant laws, guidelines, services standards, and protocols in the performance of the duties of this position.
  • Stay informed about and comply with all NCO personnel policies and procedures both as an employee and a supervisor.
  • Other duties as assigned or required.

JOB QUALIFICATIONS

Education, Training and Experience

  • A degree in Social Work, Counseling, or a related field from an accredited school is required. (Level I – bachelor’s degree; Level II—Master’s degree; III – Master’s degree and current clinical license).
  • A minimum of two years of experience working with older adults, caregivers, and/or disabled adults; personal experience and volunteer experience will be considered.
  • For Level III: A minimum of one year of prior experience supervising other staff members is required.


Knowledge and Skills:

  • Knowledge of and sensitivity to issues of family/friend/partner caregiving with diverse clients.
  • Knowledge and skills to assess caregiver needs and develop a plan of care, including connections to community services.
  • Public speaking skills to engage caregivers and caregiving professionals.
  • Experience or strong desire to work with older adults and those caring for people with chronic, debilitating health conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as an active team member.
  • Strong, compassionate problem-solving skills, including the ability to provide essential information to empower caregiving families to make informed decisions.
  • Comfort and proficiency using computer and other digital technology.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.

Necessary Special Requirements:

  • For work-related driving, employee must have: a current, valid California driver's license; a driving record that demonstrates the employee is a safe, appropriate driver as verified by a DMV printout; and proof of personal automobile insurance; or reliable transportation with proof of automobile insurance.
  • Dependable access to transportation for home visits, community meetings and presentations throughout the RCRC service area.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk, hear, listen and communicate clearly; employee may be assigned to supervise staff members and/or volunteers and interns.
  • The employee frequently is required to sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, use manual and automatic tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms.
  • The employee is regularly required to stand; bend; reach down and stretch overhead; walk; and stoop or kneel.
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds unassisted and occasionally move and lift heavier materials with assistance using ergonomic guidelines.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
  • The ability to travel during the day and/or night, sometimes long distance – possession of a valid California Driver’s License and access to an insured vehicle is required.
  • Interaction and contact with outside agencies, vendors, funders, volunteers, donors and contributors is a frequent aspect of this job.
  • The employee will regularly use computers and computer printers, telephones and other similar electronic office equipment.
