Job description

TOTE Maritime Alaska, the leader in safe and reliable service to Alaska, is seeking a Rate Specialist to join the team at our Downtown Tacoma office.

In this position you will:

be responsible for ensuring operational excellence in providing customer service by documenting and presenting cargo and rate information accurately and efficiently. This position requires you to have one to two years of customer service or billing experience, preferably in transportation, an associate degree preferred. Possess strong computer and problem-solving abilities, a deep customer affinity, continuous improvement acumen and excellent communication skills.

Main Duties and Responsibilities Include:
  • Monitor customer transactions including Documentation, Rating, Pre-Auditing, and Problem Resolution.
  • Develop an understanding of customer business models/processes for all accounts. Evaluate customer needs and recommend solutions.
  • Educate customers regarding documentation and regulatory requirements.
  • Process military booking information, upload LOB reports, request changes in military BRT system as needed.
  • Receive military cargo manifest, match up to individual TCN numbers, upload LOB reports, request changes in military BRT system, as necessary.
  • Process paperwork and attach documentation to bookings. Run and audit various reports.
  • Complete daily/weekly department task (TAG, Weekend charges, Sub report, Load ID numbers, Shipment with no terms, TB report, drays).
  • Provide daily communication support throughout all departments.
  • Perform accurate and efficient data entry/keyboarding.
  • Report on developing market conditions, service issues and competitive activities.
The ideal candidate will have:
  • Associate degree preferred.
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational and communication skills.
  • Excellent math skills.
  • Must be a standout colleague and provide support to the department.
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize. Ability to work with little or no supervision.
  • Work flexible hours, including evenings as required.
  • Computer literate, with the ability to utilize standard software applications and be proficient in Windows and MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, PowerPoint, and Excel) and E-service center & E-commerce web-based applications.

The salary range is $38,300 – $67,100 with an anticipated hiring range $42,000 - $50,000. Pay will be based on several factors including the candidate’s education, work experience, work location and specific job duties.

As part of the team, full-time employees will receive a comprehensive benefits package, which includes health, dental, vision, life insurance, short term disability, long term disability, employee assistance program, 401(k) with company match and discretionary funding, tuition reimbursement, supplemental parental leave, jury duty, and bereavement leave. Full-time employees will receive a minimum of 10 days’ vacation, 10 days sick, 10 days paid holidays and one floating holiday every 12 months.
