Key Responsibilities:

The role of the RAP Specialist is to facilitate the Reasonable Accommodation Program (RAP); an interactive process which involves local management, the HR Partner and the Employee Service Center working together with the employee to identify reasonable accommodation options. The RAP Specialist handles the processing of requests/documents, update of employee records and delivery of hassle-free service to employees while ensuring compliance with United policy, all state/local laws, ADA and federal regulations.

  • Assist employees in understanding the reasonable accommodation process, related forms and their responsibilities
  • Lead and participate as the subject matter expert in all aspects of RAP inclusive of EIS, Occupational, and Medical including functionality, quality, and consistency to ensure compliance with all state, local laws, federal regulations, Company policies, ADA guidelines and collective bargaining agreements
  • Analyze the Company's standardized system-wide RAP including performance metrics, tracking, reporting systems and all employee/supervisor correspondence
  • Process includes initial contact, assembling appropriate documentation, research potential outcomes, identify, schedule and coordinate required meetings and attendees, facilitate RAP meetings/discussions from initial request to final resolution and ensure implementation/system updates of the results
  • Follow through and communication with all respective parties
  • Subject matter expert in processing and reviewing of documents and requests received via Help Hub (ServiceNow), e-mail and phone calls to achieve a final resolution to inquiries, documentation and maintaining accurate record of results within department systems
  • Communicate effectively, accurately and professionally with internal customers, managers, representatives from Worker's Compensation, Human Resources, and Labor Relations via correspondence through e-mails, phone calls and letters to the employee and local management
  • Trouble shoot issues and conflicts and determine the best course of action on complicated issues with minimal direction
  • Seek support from supervisors, managers, and union reps for complex issues
  • Assist with development/maintenance of RAP and ADA policies, guidelines and ensure communication, training, procedures, etc., are provided to all collaborators
  • Coordinate the accommodation process to facilitate a return-to-work to full duty or with restrictions
  • If requested, in the event an accommodation cannot be determined, facilitate the placement of people, if their capabilities match the job requirements, in collaboration with Talent Acquisition and the HR Partner

Qualifications

What's needed to succeed (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Bachelor's degree and/or equivalent relevant work experience
  • 2+ years of demonstrable experience including Employee Relations, Accommodations, Leave of Absence and/or Case Management experience in the disability/worker's compensation/FMLA counseling arena
  • Knowledge of federal disability laws for employees with disabilities; specifically, ADA and FMLA
  • Ability to communicate decisions effectively and recognize legal risk associated with certain disability issues while prioritizing case elements
  • Excellent communications skills and ability to handle critical matters with tact and diplomacy
  • Ability to interact with all levels of an organization
  • Solid attention to detail and accuracy and ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Capable of exercising independent judgment and discretion while using policies and practices to determine the appropriate action
  • Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship
  • Successful completion of interview required to meet job qualification
  • Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position
