What You’ll Do:
- Promote Safety. Take an active role in prioritizing safety throughout the operation for yourself and others at all times in accordance with MSHA and Vulcan standards.
- Operate Train and Related Equipment. Assist in operating the train on its assigned route. Operate hand-controlled rail switches, manual hand-wheel brakes, uncoupling levers, and remote control devices.
- Repair and Maintain Plant Equipment. Perform minor repairs and maintenance activities around the train to improve performance and safety, including replacing heavy coupling and replacing broken knuckles or air brake hoses.
- Document and Record Information. Maintain and enter records of price, product, weight, and customer name into computers. Generate bills of sale, dray tickets, and bills of lading.
- Perform General Physical Activities. Perform a variety of physical tasks. Assist with the loading/unloading and operation of the train, including breaking/making trains and using high-pressure water hoses, pry bars, and shovels.
- Additional Responsibilities. Other duties as assigned.
Skills You’ll Need:
- Experience. Previous experience in the aggregate or construction industry is preferred.
- Knowledge of Best Practices. Knowledge of general principles and practices regarding communication and train movements and operation is preferred.
- Flexibility. Must be willing to work overtime and extended hours depending on company demands. Must be able to work outside in all types of weather conditions and tolerate being exposed to loud noises.
- Mechanical Skills. Must have some knowledge of industrial tools, their uses, and maintenance.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $17.00 - $18.00 per hour
Expected hours: 50 – 60 per week
