Description

Position Summary / Scope of Responsibility:

The Centers for Advanced Orthopaedics LLC (CAO) is one of the nation's largest Orthopaedics practices, owned and operated by physicians, with over 60 locations across Maryland, Northern Virginia, and the District of Columbia. The Radiology Technologist assists physicians to identify illnesses and injuries through using diagnostic imaging equipment such as x-ray, CT, MRI, and mammography machines. The Radiology Technologist duties also include explaining procedures to patients, calibrating imaging equipment, and preparing results.

Primary Responsibilities:

The incumbent may be asked to perform job-related tasks other than those specifically stated in this job description. Primary Responsibilities are to be carried out in a manner that is consistent with the Mission, Core Values and Operating Principles of CAO.

  1. Performs x-rays in accordance with medical provider orders; forwards images to the appropriate radiologist for over-reads; maintains x-ray equipment and adheres to safety standards.
  2. Cleans, stocks, and sterilizes equipment in addition to cleaning and preparing patient rooms for care delivery.
  3. Prepares patients for radiologic procedures. Escorts patients to dressing and x-ray rooms, provide verbal and/or written instructions, and assists patients in positioning body parts to be radiographed. Explains procedures and observes patients to ensure patient care, safety, and comfort during scan.
  4. Performs related administrative duties including completing necessary forms, labeling/developing/processing films, and maintaining procedure logs.
  5. Maintains knowledge of and appropriately enters information into the electronic medical record.
  6. Ensures radiologic equipment remains in working order. Report equipment malfunctions to Practice Administrator.
  7. Supports as back-up for clinical team members as needed by controlling patient flow, performing EKG tests, obtaining blood pressure measurements, documenting vital signs in the EMR, and administering injectables.
  8. Supports the medical provider in patient examination, testing and education.
  9. Complies with all governmental and CAO/Practice guidelines, completing all assigned training by the associated deadlines.
  10. Other duties as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:

The Radiology Technologist reports directly to the assigned Practice clinical leader.

This position does not have direct reports.

Qualifications

Requirements, Education, and Experience:

  1. Associates degree or equivalent, and completion of an approved RT program.
  2. ARRT Certification; must have Maryland, Virginia and/or DC State Licensure as applicable to the position.
  3. CPR for Healthcare Providers certification.
  4. 2+ years of medical office experience strongly preferred.

Competencies / Required Skills and Abilities:

  1. Strong interpersonal skills to promote positive relationships with CAO and non-CAO physicians and other personnel.
  2. Clinical competence as assessed during initial probationary period and evaluated at minimum annually thereafter.
  3. Excellent customer service and patient experience skills.
  4. Proficiency in Windows based office technologies (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  5. Able to work independently.
  6. Proficiency with electronic medical records and charting in same.
  7. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  8. Must be able to read, write, speak, understand, and communicate in the English language.

Physical Demands:

  1. Some heavy lifting, pushing, and pulling exerted regularly throughout a standard work shift, to thirty (30) pounds unassisted, including assisting patients when required.
  2. Requires frequent bending, reaching, repetitive hand movements, standing, walking, squatting, and sitting.
  3. Requires hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, medical equipment, fax machine, scanner, photocopier, and telephone.
  4. Adequate hearing to perform duties in person and over telephone.
  5. Must be able to communicate clearly to patients in person and over the telephone.
  6. Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including visual examination of patient, as well as reading materials from printed sources and computer screens.
  7. Requires potential exposure to communicable diseases, bodily fluids, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to a clinic environment.
