Job Summary
Department-Specific Responsibilities

  • Serves as the lead radiology/CBCT coordinator for IU School of Dentistry.
  • Works with departments on requests, coordinating appointments with patients in advance.
  • Provides radiology services to walk-in appointments as needed.
General Responsibilities
  • Takes impressions and bite registrations.
  • Takes, develops and mounts x-rays. Instructs students on taking x-rays.
  • Fits preliminary crowns for adjustments, creates custom temporary restorations and places temporary restorative material in teeth.
  • Makes and fabricates temporary crown and adjusts and cements.
  • Places and removes matrix retainers for alloy and composite restorations.
  • Places resin and amalgam restorations. Finishes and polishes restorations and adjusts patient bite.
  • Performs expanded Dental Assistant functions and demonstrates correct procedures to students.
  • Sits chair side to pass instruments and supports direct patient care as indicated by procedure.
  • Confirms that instruments are sterilized and working properly and organizes them for procedures and/or surgery.
Qualifications
EDUCATION
Required
  • High school diploma or GED
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required
  • Completion of an accredited dental assisting training program AND 1 year of expanded dental assisting experience or assisting in a dental specialty OR
  • 2 years of dental assisting experience AND Completion of an accredited dental assisting training program AND 1 year of expanded dental assisting experience or assisting in a dental specialty
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATES
Required
  • Indiana X-Ray License upon date of hire

Working Conditions / Demands
This role requires sedentary work as well as extended durations of moving about the workplace. It requires the ability to move objects and equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and the ability to discern between various objects and devices and to position patients. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
