Job Summary:
Undertakes quality control and radiochemistry activities. Will be capable of preparing radiopharmaceuticals for preclinical studies and assist in the production of radiopharmaceuticals for human studies. Work both independently and as part of a team. No prior radiochemistry experience required, but willingness to be trained in the safe handling of radioactivity required.
DEPARTMENT SUMMARY
The Vanderbilt University Institute of Imaging Science supports advances in physics, engineering, computing, chemistry, and other basic sciences for the development and application of new and enhanced imaging techniques to address problems and stimulate new research directions in biology and medicine in health and disease.
VUIIS operates state-of-the-art facilities for imaging research at all scales including imaging animals and human subjects. We pursue research in developing new imaging methods as well as applications in cancer, neuroscience, metabolic disorders, cardiovascular disease and other areas. VUIIS is supported by grants from the NIH, NSF, DOD, DOE, industry and foundations, as well as Vanderbilt University.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelors Degree in Chemistry preferred
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
• Production of radiotracers for preclinical studies, including purification and identification of target compounds
• Assist in production of radiotracers for human studies, including performing quality control on final products under cGMP conditions
• Maintain laboratory inventory and equipment
• Logging and delivery of radiotracers to scanners
• Operate and maintain analytical equipment and radiochemistry synthesis modules
• Maintain detailed records of radiotracer productions and equipment maintenance
• Maintain clean and safe work environment, performing radiation safety duties in compliance with safety and pharmaceutical regulations.
TECHNICAL CAPABILITIES
• LABORATORY (Intermediate): Experience with laboratory procedures and analytical methods (HPLC, GC, TLC) desired.
• REGULATORY (Intermediate): Familiarity with a GMP manufacturing environment and FDA cGMP regulations a plus.
• PERSONAL ATTRIBUTES (Intermediate): Superior teamwork, multi-tasking, and time management skills required.
