Administers radiation therapy by exposing specific areas of the patient's body to prescribed doses of radiation. Maintains patient charts, noting such information as the area treated, the radiation dosage, equipment control settings, the patient's reactions, and the total amount of radiation received to date. Consults with radiation oncologists and other clinical staff as needed.

Job Description

The Radiation Therapist works under the direction of the Radiation Therapist II, Radiation Oncologist and Medical Physics team to carry out specialized procedure that focus on delivering high doses of radiation through the means of treatment catheters inserted into a specified body region. Apply ionizing radiation to the patient in accordance with the prescription and instructions of the Radiation Oncologist. Demonstrates a working knowledge of the special care required for patients of all age groups. Pre-treatment preparation of all cases; to include Daily Treatment, CT Simulation, Brachy Therapy, Total Skin Electron Treatments, Gamma Knife Treatments, Clinical Simulation, and Emergency Simulation. Accurate delivery of prescribed planned course of radiation.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education: Minimum 1 year of experience in Radiation Therapy preferred. Graduation from an accredited Radiation Therapy program and registry eligible with the ARRT. Once ARRT is obtained, licensure from the South Carolina Radiation Quality Standards Association is required. CPR certification required. ARRT, SC State Licensure, CPR Certified.
