Introduction


The Department of Health Services (DHS), Division of Public Health (DPH) is recruiting for a Radiation Emergency Unit Supervisor for the Bureau of Environmental and Occupational Health (BEOH).

This position offers the option to work remotely up to 5 days per week but will be required to report to the DHS central office (1 W. Wilson St, Madison, WI) on occasion. The position will be headquartered at one of the DPH central or regional offices in Madison, Green Bay, or Milwaukee.

Position Summary


The Radiation Emergency Unit Supervisor oversees the staff and manages the operations of the programs in the Radiation Emergency Unit and related activities within the Radiation Protection Section.

In this position you will:

  • Ensure programs conduct assessment, monitor conditions, and provide emergency response assistance for eminent, occurring, or potential nuclear and radioactive emergencies and threats.
  • Consult with partners to assure effective emergency plans, systems, competencies, and equipment are available and functional to respond to emergency situations.
  • Respond to statewide incidents involving radiation.
  • Act as the liaison to Federal agencies, state agencies, local public health and emergency management agencies, and private industry.
  • Develop and implement appropriate revisions to program operations to increase effectiveness and efficiency.

Salary Information


The starting pay is between $39.50 and $43.46 per hour (approximately between $82,100 and $90,300 per year), depending on qualifications, plus excellent benefits.

Pay for current or former state employees will be set based on the rules that apply to compensation for the applicable transaction. This position is classified as a Health Services Supervisor and is in pay schedule and range 81/03. A 12-month probationary period is required.

Job Details

  • For positions that do allow remote working flexibility, although residency in the State of WI is not required for permanent positions, it is not anticipated that working outside of WI or bordering cities will be allowed as positions may at times need to report to office locations in WI on short notice.
  • Employees must have access to both a private workspace and secure high-speed internet for remote work option. Mileage reimbursement to the employee’s headquarter location is not provided. Remote work flexibility will be discussed in more detail during the interview process.
  • This position requires the ability to drive a State vehicle or the ability to provide one's own transportation. In order to become authorized to drive a State vehicle, you must meet the requirements of the State of Wisconsin Fleet Vehicle Policy

Qualifications


Minimally qualified applicants will have all of the following:

  • Experience managing a technical program or long-term project (e.g., strategic planning, managing project timelines, monitoring work plans, collaborating with internal and external partners, etc.).
  • Experience applying radiation safety procedures and practices as they relate to radiation emergencies.
  • Experience providing technical assistance to internal and external partners or individuals from diverse backgrounds including non-technical partners.

Well-qualified applicants will also have one or more of the following:

  • Experience providing analysis or advisory support on public health consequences or mitigation of a radiological emergency.
  • Experience in radiological detection, measurement, and monitoring used to determine public health consequences.
  • Experience or training in nuclear power plant design and operations.
  • Experience in a supervisory role performing duties such as hiring, delegating work responsibilities, reviewing performance, training, etc.
