Hitachi Rail is looking for an enthusiastic self-motivated Quantity Surveyorwho thrives in a fast-paced environment. The successful candidate is comfortable performing a wide range of tasks from administrative to strategic. The position is based in Oakland, California

Accountabilities:

  • Follow the work progress of all Construction activities to accurately oversee Hitachi and Subcontractor invoicing.
  • Provide commercial evaluation of Construction activities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Prepare regular cost reports and forecasts to keep stakeholders informed.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide expertise on cost-related matters.
  • Track Construction material inventory.
  • Confirm invoices comply with the project plan and contract.
  • Cooperate with the Administrative team to process the invoices.
  • Support the Construction Manager to identify and prepare contractual claims and variances.
  • Act jointly with Project Management and Commercial to achieve Client approval of invoices. 
  • Maintain an orderly archive of documents.

Required Skills/ Knowledge:

  • A minimum of 5 -7 years of relevant and experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing subcontractors and key stakeholders on projects.
  • Detailed knowledge of Design-Build projects.
  • Understanding of Construction planning and scheduling.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Able to meet deadlines and successfully handle pressures associated with site construction works.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, employees, peers, and third parties.
  • Ability to maintain the integrity of confidential business information.
     

Desired Skills/ Knowledge:

  • Construction and installation of rail transit systems or other complex systems in urban environments.
  • Cost Estimates, Contractual Claims, Cost Analysis, Cost Control, Feasibility Studies, Contracts, Variation Orders.  
  • Effective Partnering and Teaming skills.
  • Technical writing.
  • MS Project and/or Primavera P6 Scheduling tools.
  • Construction Management software.
  • MS Office tools.
     

Education:

  • High school degree with specialization in surveying and/or Engineering University degree or Equivalent Technical background
     

Languages:

  • Written and spoken English proficiency.

In accordance with the DOT's FRA and FTA programs, Hitachi's substance screening program tests pre-employment candidates and current employees, as required for safety-sensitive positions.

The salary range for this position is  $98,000 -  $148,00 per year.  Final pay is determined by the candidate's experience, skillset and ability level, internal equity and location.
