Job description

Job Purpose
To perform production inspection procedures to ensure that product quality meets requirements. This includes calibration of tools and Gages, programming of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMM), the completion of part and product inspections, and oversight of CMM usage by production personnel.
Job Description
  • Assists production departments in the development of gaging methods and applications.
  • Develops and maintain programs and methods for the inspection of simple to complex components on the Coordinate Measurement Machines.
  • Assists in developing fixturing for use in programmable CMMs.
  • Instructs personnel in operating programmable CMMs.
  • Calibrates gages in accordance with established procedures and records information to provide control of same.
  • Performs complex inspections of first piece, production samples, special parts, tools, dies, jigs and fixtures as directed by supervision.
  • Issues reports on findings and confers with supervisor and production personnel and engineering on acceptance or correction of possible defects.
  • Instructs personnel in use of gages.
  • Keeps work area orderly and moves material as required.
  • Initiates and processes nonconformance tickets as required.

You are meant for this job if:
  • Measurement gages in use within the Quality Control Department are checked and adjusted according to procedure.
  • Develops and recommends procedure updates and improvements.
  • Cleans and makes adjustments on such instruments as micrometers, indicators and verniers.
  • Uses such instruments as: optical comparator, precision gag blocks, electro-limit tester, hardness tester, profilometer, super micrometer, CMM, and other precision instruments in checking tools, materials and Gages.
  • Initiates requisitions for gages for production operators and recommends type of gage needed.
  • Assists maintenance personnel in checking machine alignment.
  • Must have recent job experience (within two years) in a CNC role, Product Testing, or Product Assembly.
  • Must be able to proficiently use inspection techniques (Calipers, Gage Micrometers, etc.) as well as interpret part drawing requirements.
  • Must be proficient with blueprint GD&T interpretation and application.
