Onsite: This role is categorized as onsite. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Bedford Casting Operations on a full-time basis.
The Role: Bedford Casting Operations is a unique GM castings supplier. We create engine blocks, transmission cases, EV drive unit housings, and vehicle structural components via world-class casting technologies. This means we can support both ICE and EV operations with production proliferation capable of adjusting to market demands. The selected candidate will have the opportunity to learn new skills and play an active role in developing new processes/procedures and implementing continuous improvement.
The Quality Shift Leader will be assigned to our Quality Dept. as the lead for an operations team. The Quality Shift Leader will lead/support Global Manufacturing System (GMS) initiatives across multiple departments and may function as a GMS Subject Matter Expert (SME). The Quality Shift Leader will proactively and reactively lead quality improvement initiatives across multiple departments by effectively using personnel, material, equipment, and standardized work. The Quality Shift Leader will be expected to leverage opportunities, solve problems, and coach/train employees.
What You'll Do (Responsibilities):
Ensure employees have adequate training and resources to perform their duties safely
Build and maintain quality relationships across departments
Manpower coordination across shifts, vacation planning, and OT scheduling/rotation
Conduct huddles with employees
Coach and Teach employees
Maintain awareness of quality standards, communicate department quality goals and utilize resources to solve quality issues
Support BPD initiatives and countermeasures
Drive PPM and IPPM metric improvements
Support the Fast Response process
Initiate and provide support for containments
Participate in various GMS Audits
Support day-to-day operations
Perform start of shift procedures; including cross shift communication
Attend production ops meetings
Perform end of shift processes
Support Cost Council initiatives
Additional Description
Your Skills and Abilities (Required Qualifications):
BSE, BBA, or equivalent technical degree
5+ years of Quality, Casting, and/or Machining experience
Ability to work OT and off-shift as needed
Understanding of Process Control Plans (PCP) and Process Failure Modes Effects Analysis (PFMEA) requirements
Business Plan Deployment process knowledge
Experience with Budget planning/management
Relevant GMS experience
Proficient knowledge of geometric design and tolerancing (GD&T).
Demonstrated knowledge of probability, statistical quality control and design of experiments
Ability to travel to other sites as needed
What Can Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
Master’s degree in Business or Engineering is a plus
Technical and Quality Certifications are a plus Demonstrated knowledge of statistical methods as applied to process control
Demonstrated ability in managing complex and ambiguous tasks with minimal input from supervisor
Ability to interpret product part prints
Op Ex / Red X certification
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
Demonstrated knowledge of quality systems and gaging methods
