Who we are looking for:
The Care Delivery department is looking for a highly-motivated Quality Performance Improvement Grants Intern. The intern's primary responsibility will be to assist with both privately funded and federally funded grant-funded projects. This internship provides the opportunity to gain practical skills and knowledge while contributing to the success of impactful programs within a collaborative and supportive environment. The intern will gain hands-on experience and knowledge in project management, internal and stakeholder relationships, and various administrative tasks associated with ASCO volunteer committees and steering groups.
Internship activities include:
Grants

  • Aid grants team on pertinent grant renewals such as drafting communication and brainstorming ideas with internal teams.
  • Propose refinement to grant impact reporting templates and areas for improvement on final report submission for grant projects.
  • Support refinement and/or development of grants SOPs.

Research
  • Conduct research on available requests for proposal (RFPs) related to quality improvement in the clinical care space and share findings.
  • Conduct research on best practices and pertinent resources to share with internal and external stakeholders including but not limited to, adult immunization, hub-and-spoke models of care delivery, sustainability in quality improvement, etc.
  • Conduct research on grant evaluation tactics and best practices to implement for future projects.

Web Support
  • Draft updates to Care Delivery websites.
  • Provide ideas to engage participating health systems to discuss lessons learned, sharing of best practices, and/or barriers to quality improvement through ASCO's myConnection Forum.
  • Organize quality improvement project slide decks in an ASCO online library.
  • Assist in preliminary tasks for platform creation for grant participants to engage with each other beyond the program.

Administrative Support
  • Execute administrative tasks such as management of Doodle Polls, drafting and sending out meeting minutes, scheduling Zoom calls.
  • Draft internal communications to follow up on action items and next steps post-meetings.
  • Assist with on-site HQ meetings logistics.
  • Manage invoicing and faculty/volunteer reimbursements.

Required qualifications:
  • Currently enrolled in an undergraduate BA/BS degree program, or graduate program, or recently graduated from a 4-year degree program. Candidates must be at least a junior or entering their junior year of college at the start of the internship.
  • Project coordination experience.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Customer-focused mindset to build effective relationships with volunteers, grantees, faculty, and other ASCO colleagues, and professionalism.
  • Professionalism.
  • Experience with the Microsoft Office Suite (365 preferred).
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with flexibility to adapt to changing needs.
  • Solid organizational and time management skills and impeccable attention to detail.
  • Willingness to enhance skills.

Duration: 10 weeks during the summer - June 10, 2024, to August 16, 2024. This internship is 37.5 hours per week.
Compensation: This summer internship position is paid. Additionally, ASCO will provide parking or a metro subsidy to the successful candidate.
Location: This internship is based in Alexandria, VA and will require working onsite. Candidates should reside in the D.C. metro area or be able to relocate at their own expense. If you are not able to work at ASCO Headquarters, please do not apply.
