The Quality/Patient Safety Analyst is responsible for collecting, transforming, analyzing and reporting quality outcomes and process data that support stakeholder's decisions related to quality initiatives, Patient Safety, performance improvement initiatives, regulatory standards compliance, and policies and procedures. The Analyst will be responsible for preparing, analyzing and distributing clinical quality and Patient Safety reports in the form of dashboards, scorecards or other presentation tools, ensuring the accuracy, integrity, validity, reliability and consistency in report preparation.


ESSENTIAL KEY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Facilitates development and implementation of data collection tools and processes including, the ability to identify data elements needed to complete appropriate measurement, perform timely data collection and abstraction per specifications, and validate data prior to submission or preview reports prior to publication.
  • Collects evidence based data points based on knowledge of patient condition and clinical workflow.
  • Generates reports and analyses to support related quality improvement, Patient Safety, patient experience and operational effectiveness using key statistical tools, including but not limited to, run charts, bar charts, pie charts, control charts, and cause and
    effect diagrams.
  • Analyzes data and identifies key findings and develops action plans appropriate to the clinical care of the patient population. Presents complex data with simplicity of design in a clear, easy to understand format.
  • Learns, understands and becomes proficient in relevant facility, CommonSpirit Health and external data sources and systems including, but not limited to, clinical process and outcome data, electronic health record data, event reporting data, and patient complaints, etc. (e.g. Midas+, IRIS, iVOS, ATLAS, etc.).
  • Assists in designing, developing, maintaining and updating clinical and other databases based on experience of clinical workflows, department and organizational needs.
  • Collaborates on multidisciplinary teams and provides analytical support and clinical knowledge / experience for various projects related to quality improvement, Patient Safety, patient experience and outcomes, as appropriate.
  • Interprets, explains and discusses data analysis results. Actively interacts with clinical staff and acts as a clinical knowledge resource for quality measurement and improvement activities.

Education and Experience Required:

  • Associate's or Bachelor’s degree in a clinical field
  • Two (2) years clinical experience in an acute care setting.
  • Minimum of one (1) year analytic / statistical analysis experience, preferably in health care of clinic environment.
  • Prior experience with Cerner, Epic, Meditech and Midas is a plus

Preferred:  Nursing experience

 

Licensure and Certifications Required:

  • Current state license in a clinical field in state of practice

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to learn and capably use functionality of various software programs implemented at the organization, as needed.
  • Strong communication skills verbally and written. 
  • Demonstrates breadth and/or depth of professional/ technical skills and capabilities required for position; shares knowledge; sets or contributes to the Company’s direction within area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of the techniques and the ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.
  • Knowledge of the current situation or issue at hand; ability to take full personal responsibility or ownership for assignments, activities, decisions and results.
  • Understanding of the necessity and value of accuracy and attention to detail; ability to process information with high levels of accuracy.
  • Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis and the ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve the problems in the best interest of the business.
  • Working knowledge of National Quality Forum (NQF), Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), Institutes for Healthcare Improvement (IHI) safety indicators, serious reporting events, safe medical practices, and Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) quality measures helpful.
  • Advanced spreadsheet (e.g., MS Excel, Google Sheets) and Gmail knowledge.
