SUMMARY
This role is the primary point of contact at Associated Feed and Supply for Quality Assurance, Quality Control, and Continuous Improvement and will cover all AFS facilities.  The Quality Manager is responsible for managing, leading, and continuously improving the Food/Feed Safety and Quality program to comply with all 3rd party requirements as well as meeting customer expectations.  This would include review of current program and modernizing and improving as necessary; directing the company’s Food Safety Plan covering the hygiene program; FDA, CDFA, and SFSF compliance; and managing the sampling program including feed sample retention and medication controls, operator training and development, housekeeping, and complaint management.  The primary focus of this role is to improve customer satisfaction and product quality.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
 
  • Creates a culture that drives and builds a positive, safe, and efficient work environment.
  • Develops and hires team members to aid in culture development; assists with training of new employees and implementing training programs.
  • Takes the lead in evaluating current quality program, understanding customer expectations and gaps of current program, and finding solutions to close those gaps.
  • Conduct an annual review of the HACCP and Food Safety Programs for AFS.
  • Conducts routine quality audits annually of each facility and communicates results and corrective actions to appropriate leadership.
  • Maintains effective communication and works collaboratively with all departments including Sales, Dispatch/Transportation, and other areas to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
  • Provides technical and managerial expertise to solve problems, makes recommendations and oversees implementation of improvements.
  • Responsible for hiring, development and retention of quality department employees including resolution of disciplinary actions and employee issues; takes appropriate action with the assistance of the Human Resources Department.
  • Completes performance reviews and provides feedback to employees; establishes performance development plans and goals.
  • Reviews and approves employee timesheets; monitors overtime, vacation schedules and sick usage; assists with employee scheduling.
  • Maintains all required documentation and records, ensuring compliance and accuracy.
  • Recommends capital improvement projects, equipment replacement and staffing levels.
  • Sets, communicates, and sustains high standards for facility housekeeping and the organization.
  • Drives, through influence, the improvement of product quality daily focusing on adherence to SOP’s and the continual improvement of sampling processes and escalation protocols.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Knowledge of:
  • Building, implementing, and improving Quality programs with an emphasis on customer satisfaction.
  • Manufacturing/operations and industry methods, best practices, standards, and procedures
  • HACCP, FSMA, SOP, GMP and environmental regulations and/or requirements

Ability to:
  • Lead, motivate and effectively operate within a team.
  • Multi-task and work well in a fast-paced environment.
  • Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines, and reporting
  • Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and customers.

Minimum Job Requirements, Experience and Training Guidelines:
  • Bachelor’s degree desired, but not mandatory
  • Six (6) plus years in a quality/manufacturing leadership role with increasing responsibility
  • Have FSMA training and PCQI certification, or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
  • Strong managerial, analytical, and decision-making abilities
  • Demonstrated effectiveness in fostering a collaborative team environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Effective interpersonal skills including the ability to motivate staff and facilitate change.
  • Familiarity with regulatory requirements
  • Computer proficiency in Outlook, Excel, Word, timekeeping, production management and inventory control systems; SAP experience desired
  • California driver’s license and insurable DMV record
SPECIAL DEMANDS
           
  • Frequent standing and/or long period of time on feet
  • Occasional bending, squatting, and kneeling.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying of up to 75 pounds.
  • Occasional grasping, holding, and reaching.
  • Constant use of overall vision
  • Frequent hearing and talking in person; may be required to wear ear protection or hear in noisy conditions.
  • Frequent co-worker contact; occasional working alone
  • Frequent exposure to loud noise
  • Available to respond to emergency calls; work weekends and/or holidays.
  • Able to climb ladders/stairsup to heights more than 100’.

Working conditions
  • Work may be performed inside or outside in hot and cool temperatures and a noisy environment.
  • May be exposure to loud noises and steam exhaust, and dusty, muddy and slick environment.
  • Adhere to all PPE Guidelines as established by OSHA and the company.
