At Caterpillar’s Brooklyn Park, MN facility, we manufacture premium Earthmoving products used in building the infrastructure that makes a better world and our Quality teams ensure that the products manufactured, shipped our dealers, and ultimately, delivered to the end customers are of the quality our customers have come to expect.  If you have a passion for quality and are looking to make a positive impact, the role of Quality Manager may be the ideal next career step for you!  In this role, you will guide a diverse team of quality employees, trainers, and leaders toward building and maintaining a culture of quality.

What you can look forward to in this role:

  • Hold responsibility for overall quality organization which includes quality production processes, Incoming Quality Audits (IQA), CQMS & MQ process, CMM lab, calibrations process, met lab, quality engineering, root cause corrective action and 2 months in service (2MIS) field quality.
  • Set budget requirements, cost savings projects, forecasting production needs and ensuring quality standards are maintained.
  • Develop plans for efficient use of materials, machines, and manpower to achieve manufacturing cost, quality, and inventory management target.
  • Champion a culture of quality within the team and process partners
  • Implement various corporate initiatives such as 5S, Lean Manufacturing, 6 Sigma, Internal Certification, etc. 
  • Promote the development of people through continued education, employee involvement, increased responsibility, and ergonomics. 
  • Support new product introduction.
  • Set goals and assist team in meeting quality goals/standards.

Additionally, you will impact LEAN by:

  • Leading multiple sections and reports to the facility manager.
  • Owning the Continuous Improvement process, making sure new ideas are generated, worked, and implemented, and any roadblocks are eliminated.
  • Coaching process improvement dialogs with Group Managers, Section Managers, Team Leads and Team Members.
  • Developing detailed near-term and long-term production plans.
  • Driving root cause analysis and resolution on all forms of loss, i.e., safety, quality, velocity.
  • Performing periodic audits for safety behavior, 5S, standard work, productivity, and overall equipment effectiveness (OEE).
  • Ensuring daily production requirements are supported.
  • Defining and ensuring adherence to quality processes.

A successful candidate in this role will showcase their skills in:

  • Quality Management: Knowledge of quality management methods, tools, and techniques and ability to create and support an environment that meets the quality goals of the organization.
  • Influencing: Knowledge of effective influencing tactics and strategies; ability to impact decisions within and outside own organization.
  • Quality Risk Management: Knowledge of processes, tools, and techniques for Quality Risk Management; ability to implement the quality assurance process of assessment, control, communication, and review of risks to the quality of products.
  • Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Knowledge of the concepts, principles and techniques of root cause analysis (RCA); ability to use a structured approach to identify the causes of undesirable consequences in a manufacturing environment and the changes needed to prevent recurrences.

Top Candidates for this position may also have:

  • Progressive career growth in Operations, Supply Chain, Quality, or related fields that includes leading people.
  • A degree in a manufacturing or business degree
  • A demonstrated ability to work with a diverse group of people across functional areas in a facility.
  • A working knowledge of quality management systems
  • Project management background
  • Demonstrated focus on people, quality, velocity, and cost.
  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skill along with deep knowledge of how to leverage LEAN principles toward continuous improvement.
