Job description

The Quality Improvement Specialist (ASO3) is a Civil-Service position with the Nashville Fire Department. This position is responsible for processes a variety of transactions, medical record requests and other various Nashville Fire Department (NFD) procedures and processes. Performs related duties as required.
  • Processes and receives transactions and invoices.
  • Responds to medical record requests from outside parties.
  • Reconciles general financial ledger accounts.
  • Works concurrently on a variety of projects.
  • Makes occasional court appearances or depositions for medical records requests.
  • Organizes and manages files for EMS instructors and EMS courses.
  • Interacts with patients and family members in a customer service role.
  • Maintains confidentially of sensitive information.
  • Cooperates with attorneys, law enforcement, and medical professionals when processing medical records requests.
  • Maintains inventory and orders products for the American Heart Association training site.
Any combination of education and experience that would prepare the incumbent to perform duties of the position at the appropriate level. Employees would typically have a Bachelor's Degree plus one (1) year of professional experience in an administrative or technical field.
License Requirement:
Valid Driver License

Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.



  • Experience with medical records and familiarity with medical terminology
  • Knowledge of HIPAA
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products
  • Experience working in a legal environment or law office
  • Experience with in-person and phone customer service
  • Knowledge of governmental purchasing practices
