Job Overview:

Expected Length of Internship:
  • The internship is expected to start on January 8 and last through May 3, 2024
  • As an internship company, we allow flexibility to enrol in classes while working as an intern, as long as it doesn't interfere with the essential functions of the position.

Experience:
  • Strong preference for candidates with basic skills and experience in one or more of the following areas: electronics, mechanics, laboratory measurements, microscopy, physics, statistics, and chemistry.
  • Prior internship or work in a manufacturing facility or R&D lab desired but not required.
  • Familiarity with photovoltaic measurement techniques including IV, CV and QE measurement, thermography and IR imaging is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ALT equipment, test methods and test structures used in support of failure analysis is a plus.

Education:
  • Currently working towards a Bachelor of Science (4-year program), or master of science or PhD degree in engineering or similar technical discipline
  • First Solar encourages all interns to register their internship with their university.

Required Skills/Competencies:
  • Safety first mindset; good knowledge of physics and chemistry concepts; experience in collecting data from experiments; good communication and teamwork; knows how to use MS Excel

Basic Internship Scope (Project):
  • The intern is expected to work on improving a new solar cell device fabrication process. Key deliverables are identifying areas to improve and implementing some of the changes.
  • Upon the completion of this internship, the intern is required to present their accomplishments and project summary to the leadership team.
  • Will conduct developmental tests, including sample fabrication and testing. May compile and analyze test data from performed testing and review results with engineering personnel to improve efficiency and stability of solar modules.
  • Plan, organize, and execute engineering experiments in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. (Good multitasking skills a necessity)
  • Summarize experimental data and present it in a clear concise format.

Estimated Salary Range:
  • $18 - $24

US Physical Requirements:
• Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures..
Manufacturing & Maintenance Physical Requirements:
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 51 pounds on an occasional basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will lift up to 37 pounds on a frequent basis
  • Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Will push or pull up to 10 pounds of force on a frequent basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects repetitively on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, cut resistant gloves, jackets, aprons &/or arm guards, safety glasses, hearing protection).
  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair).

Hybrid Physical Requirements:
  • Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift.
  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis.
  • Will lift up to 51 pounds on a seldom basis, according to work instruction.
  • Will push or pull up to 27 pounds of force on an occasional basis.
  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
  • 20/40 vision in each eye, (with or without correction) and the ability to distinguish between red, yellow and green is required.
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis.

  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required
  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures
  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron and arm guards)

Office Physical Requirements:
