Job description

This internship is a part of a 10-week summer internship program opportunity. This role will be based at Archer's headquarters in San Jose, California and relocation or housing will not be provided. 

What You'll Do:

Archer is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Quality Engineering Intern to join our Quality team. This internship provides a hands-on opportunity to gain practical experience into Quality Management Systems. The successful candidate will be instrumental in deploying processes that allow Archer to build safe, compliant products that are right the first time, on-time, every time. 

  • Collaborate closely with the quality team to identify areas where processes can be improved, continuous improvement initiatives can be fostered, efficiency can be enhanced, and costs can be reduced.
  • Apply technical knowledge to collect and analyze calibration data to identify trends and provide insights for process optimization to the Calibration Program. This may include inventory management, data analysis to help identify trends, such as recurring issues or deviations, and assist in quality control measures to monitor the effectiveness of the calibration program, such as regular audits and performance metrics tracking.
  • Analyze the existing Product Quality Assurance processes, including inspection plan methods and nonconformance handling, to identify opportunities to streamline processes and improve efficiency without compromising quality.
  • Learning and familiarization with the operation of the Coordinate Measuring Machine (CMM), its software, and programming language. Analyze its historical inspection data to identify common types of measurements, features, and tolerances encountered in the manufacturing process.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including engineering, logistics, and manufacturing, to achieve production and certification goals. 
  • Interface with engineers, maintainers, technicians, and program management to accomplish objectives safely and efficiently.
  • Engage in a product focused on Continuous Improvement levering principles from Lean, Six Sigma and Advanced Quality Planning concepts. 

What You Need:

  • Currently enrolled in a degree program related to Engineering (Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial) at an accredited University, preferably a Junior going into your Senior year.
  • Proficient in conducting data analysis using software like Microsoft Office suite, Power BI, and similar tools.
  • Solid analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Effective communication and presentation abilities, both written and verbal, coupled with adept multitasking skills to manage multiple projects concurrently.
  • Proactive and capable of independently driving tasks to completion
  • Aligned with Archer's core values 

Bonus Qualifications:

  • Basic familiarity with Quality Standards such as AS9100 or ISO 9001 
  • Familiarity with manufacturing tools, equipment, and software
  • Knowledge of lean manufacturing and 6S principles
  • Familiarity with the aviation industry
  • Located in the San Francisco Bay Area
