Quality Engineer - Artisan Center

On-site: This position requires an employee to be on-site on a full-time basis.

The Role:

The Artisan Center is located on GM’s Global Technical Center campus in Warren, Michigan. The Artisan Center’s mission is to integrate production engineering, manufacturing engineering, manufacturing and suppliers to optimize & produce the highest quality test properties and validate the manufacturing processes to drive Launch Excellence.

The Quality Engineer - Artisan Center will be responsible for root cause analysis, containment and correction of Build Issues within Pre-Production Operations Build Events and collaborate with UAW-Represented Hourly Employees and Engineering Program Teams to resolve product, process and tooling issues. This candidate must be able to prioritize and lead own workload daily. This role is responsible for not only Quality; but also Safety, Schedule and Cost.

What You’ll Do:

• Perform early issue identification, tracking and resolution to ensure segment leadership.
• Provide clear and timely communication to Quality, Operations and Program management relative to quality issues.
• Call out issues and collaborate with engineering teams to provide timely containment in order to meet build and validation schedules.
• Work with Validation owners to ensure that any defects are contained/corrected in manner that protects Validation activities.
• Lead launch and current product problem solving activities.
• Deploy quality work according to planned development timing.
• Work with the product team to identify and gather critical status updates for Quality reviews.
• Facilitate Quality Review meetings with integrity of presentation materials.
• Mentor and teach UAW-represented Hourly individuals and Program Teams in use of our Quality tracking and resolution systems.
• Understand and work within Global Manufacturing System (GMS) Business Plan Deployment (BPD) framework.
• Can be Day shift or Afternoon shift and may change at any time.

Additional Description

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

• 2+ years of experience in Quality Engineering in a manufacturing environment
• Bachelor’s Degree with a major in engineering or equivalent experience.
• Must have ability to learn and work within GM IT systems including but not limited to EMS (Engineering Materials System)

• Strong background in Problem solving and the ability to track issues to closure

• Bill of material experience

• Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of staff and management

• Excellent organization skills with the ability to perform multiple tasks and drive results working within strict time frames

• Ability to read and interpret assembly and component drawings and engineering specifications

• Strong knowledge of manufacturing processes

• MS Office suite including PowerPoint, Word and Excel

This position is not eligible for ISP, ITAP, or localizations.
