Job Description
Assesses, organizes, synthesizes, and graphically displays data collected for the purpose of process/outcomes improvement. Ensures that data produced is valid, meaningful, and reliable. Proactively supports the efforts of the Quality and Patient Safety Program, Clinically Integrated Network, National Quality Collaboratives, Magnet Recognition Program, and nursing/clinical practice at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta. Supports recognition endeavors and quality awards/designations.
Experience

  • 2 years of experience in clinical or healthcare with knowledge of medical terminology and workflows

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • General knowledge of healthcare workflows

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Statistics, Decision Support, Public Health, Epidemiology, or related field

Certification Summary
  • No professional certifications required

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Competency with spreadsheets, word processing, and database and graphics software
  • Ability to research, manipulate, and analyze data and identify implications
  • Ability to display data in graphical formats, including aggregation and analysis summaries
  • Ability to use internal and external information systems
  • Ability to communicate well and present findings verbally and in writing
  • Ability to support multiple assignments, shift priorities in accordance with need, and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Good interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills
  • Ability to take direction from others who are not a direct supervisor

Job Responsibilities
  • Collects/maintains clinical and operational data and benchmarks with national organizations, primarily National Database of Nursing Quality Indicators, National Healthcare Safety Network, and NRC Picker.
  • Maintains extensive records and large data sets which may include those for all nursing sensitive indicators, core measures, and patient satisfaction data as applicable.
  • Interacts with other hospital staff and/or departments and external organizations and requests/collects data as it applies to the stated requirements.
  • Retrieves and tabulates necessary data, which may include those for all nursing sensitive indicators, core measures, and patient satisfaction as applicable.
  • Presents data to leaders in a concise manner to support decision making.
  • Performs other department-specific responsibilities related to database maintenance and/or data collection.
  • Ensures the accurate, timely entry of all collected clinical and operational data.
  • Coordinates and monitors the acquisition of clinical and operational data and data entry for process efficiency and accuracy into repository system and retrieval of aggregate data, supporting continuous improvement of these processes as needed.
  • Adheres to data definitions, including those provided by any database's governing body and stays current with nationally recommended changes.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of a process to ensure data validation and integrity and capture of completely appropriate patient population.
  • Maintains competency and compliance of database requirements (e.g., inter-reliability audits).
  • Participates in providing statistical support and analysis for all projects.
  • Handles export, validation, analysis, and summary of data, including data analysis, data trending, and summary for internal and external projects.
  • Designs and develops data collection and display tool, scorecards, and readable reports appropriate for target audiences and Magnet document as applicable.
  • Adheres to Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements pertaining to strict confidentiality regarding patient data, quality assurance indicators, and results of information collected
