JOB DESCRIPTION

Caracal USA Quality Control Inspectors are responsible for all aspects of quality inspection of parts, tooling, and processes pertaining to Quality Control, using traditional and advanced metrology tools and techniques, as well as the documented quality management system (QMS) in place at Caracal USA. The inspectors will be knowledgeable and experienced in common metrology; drawing interpretation using Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T); instrument calibration; inspection planning; and measurement support for problem solving activities. Quality Control Inspectors will also be responsible for formal inspection reports and data collection in accordance with Caracal USA QMS standards. This position also Includes production support; data collection and analysis; troubleshooting and root cause analysis; and workplace organization and safety.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work efficient/effective within the planning and performance of routine and non-routine mechanical inspection using pre-determined methods for product acceptability with minimal supervision.
  • Utilize specialized inspection equipment, such as profilometers, hardness testers, optical comparators and vision systems, as required.
  • Support production via reviewing/explaining of inspection data to assure integrity of the production process and begin the investigation/resolve of discrepancies found during part inspection.
  • Using the company processes system to document product discrepancies, generate inquiries, perform movement of material, create job routings and any other function required to perform job duties.
  • When required: provide data and analysis to support resolution of issues, provide initial data to support contact of supplier (internal and external) and notification of customer (internal and external) of resolution.
  • Implementation of expedient methods of inspection in order to maintain product flow in accordance with company directives. This includes assistance in the development of fixtures and gauges.
  • Using corrective action system and subsequent follow up process to resolve deficiencies found during job function for both Receiving and or In-process Inspection.
  • Communicate effectively to all supervision regarding problems and corrective action.
  • Seek and act upon ways to improve daily work processes to enhance quality and productivity, and satisfy customer needs and expectations; look for cost reduction and service improvements; eliminate unnecessary or low priority work; initiate and encourage others to resolve impediments and act on improvement opportunities.
  • Ability to arrive on time to work each day with a positive attitude

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Warehouse duties including; Inventory count, shop maintenance, routine work area cleaning, and other tasks as required within the job description.

JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Understand the operation and functioning of rifles and pistols and the interaction of their various parts
  • Attention to detail to ensure component, tool, and process inspections are completed fully and correctly
  • Work with your direct manager to ensure productivity goals are clearly outlined and met on a daily, weekly and monthly basis.
  • Work with your direct manager to ensure that Quality Control steps and proper documentation is completed in accordance with Caracal USA requirements
  • Use common hand tools to include files, punches, hammers, screwdrivers, bit drivers, clamps, pliers, tweezers, socket and torque wrenches, gauges, micrometers, and other small tools.

QUALIFICATIONS

Successful Quality Control Inspectors are able to perform all of the essential skills and abilities listed above as well as, being able to complete and pass a criminal background check in order to work within a Federally Licensed Firearm Manufacturing facility.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2+ years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Includes proficiency with traditional measuring devices (eg, indicators, height gages, calipers, micrometers)
  • Drawing/blueprint reading, including working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing.
  • Solid and demonstrable working knowledge of calibration systems, including standards and principles.
  • Basic knowledge of statistics and statistical process control, including applications.
  • Basic knowledge of structured problem solving and process improvement tools (such as flowcharts, check sheets, control charts, and scatter diagrams.
  • Entry level armorer understanding of company product to facilitate use of judgement in determining product acceptability in subjective situations.
  • Obtain and maintain a thorough understanding of Sporting Arms Manufacturing standards for specifications and manufacturing requirements including all appropriate testing protocols.
  • Establish and maintain a functional knowledge on the operation and maintenance of all quality inspection equipment used in the inspection process.
  • Rudimentary knowledge of components, assemblies and product form, fit and function.
  • Basic MS Word and Excel skills.
  • Manufacturing experience is a plus

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

While performing the duties of this job the employee is required to acknowledge

  • Working expectations: ability to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; talk and hear; taste and smell. The employee will be subject to prolonged standing. All team members must be able to manipulate and assemble small parts.
  • Specific vision abilities required by the job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. By way of natural or corrected vision.
  • Physical Strength requirement: The employee must frequently lift and/or move 25 pounds. Occasionally lift and/or move up to 65 pounds, and push/pull up to 70 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee may be exposed to weather conditions during potential live fire function testing of finished goods. Most of the work will take place within our climate controlled Quality Control laboratory. While performing the duties of this job, this position will be exposed to the manufacturing/factory/warehouse environment and be exposed to fumes and/or airborne particles. Personal protective equipment is provided by Caracal USA as needed. Employees will encounter moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in this work environment can be loud.
