Summary:
Primary responsibility is daily QC activities associated with sample testing and production verification. Regularly work on long term projects and participate in various trainings.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned
Participate in daily sensory training, which involves learning to identify flavor raw materials by taste and odor.
- Perform sampling of inbound raw materials according to procedures.
- Review and interpret micro data for approval.
- Perform physical and organoleptic testing on all finished products, intermediates and raw materials. Verify that all characteristics match specifications.
- Notify manager of non-conforming products or deviations to procedures.
- Create, review, and store general QC documentation, such as, certificates of analysis.
- Work with QC management on investigating issues including performing root cause analysis and determining corrective and preventative actions.
- Abide by all GMPs and food safety programs. Must be able to monitor area for adherence to food safety.
- Calibrate and operate QC testing instrumentation in a safe and professional manner. This includes gas chromatograph, moisture analyzer, water activity meter, flash point meter, densitometers, refractometers, and balances.
- Review production work orders and verify that they are filled out correctly.
- Exhibit the necessary behaviors of Prinova’s core value Commitment to Quality: Attention to detail, follow proper procedures, and ensure all products comply with the necessary quality standards.
- Ensure compliance standards with food safety, food defense, and food quality. (FDA, ILDPH, FSMA and BRC).
- Maintain 5s cleanliness in the QC Lab.

Required Education and/or Experience:
Experience will be taken into consideration. Associates degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or university in a scientific discipline with three to five years related experience and/or training. Bachelor’s degree (B.S.) or equivalent from a four-year college or university in scientific discipline. Related experience and/or training is preferred.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Language Skills
Ability to read, understand and interpret regulatory information, industry standards, and International and Federal Food Regulations. The ability to format and create regulatory/quality documents where necessary.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Thorough understanding of unit conversions, nutritional analysis calculations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to make educated judgments on correctness, accuracy, and appropriateness of information. Must be able to provide leadership, organization, and prioritize and make decisions.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Inventory software; Spreadsheet software and Word Processing software. Must be comfortable collecting and interpreting data.

- Ability to lift up to < 25 lbs.
- Work environment is normally in an office setting. Must be able to make frequent rounds in a warehouse environment
- Ability to view a computer screen and type for extended hours
- Ability to sit and stand for extended periods of time
- Other physical requirements include moderate standing and occasional squatting, bending, and twisting
- Must be able to wear any required PPE such as scrubs, hair net, lab coat, and facemask
- Ability to work around a variety of different smells and aromas
- Ability to adjust work schedule as business needs require.
