Quality Assurance Automation Engineer

The Automated Scoring team develops machine learning-based models that analyze tens of millions of learner exam responses each year. Our technology is unique and meaningful, providing results quickly on student performance on standardized tests. As the Quality Assurance Automation Engineer, you will be at the front line of meeting delivery goals ensuring our innovations are available and reliable for educators, students, and parents.

Duties & Responsibilities

Listed below are the typical duties and responsibilities expected of an individual for the job title described in this document. The items specified below are a guideline of the minimum expectations for the job title; changes will be made on a case-by-case basis for individuals who show potential to take on more opportunities.

  • Collaborate with machine learning engineers to discuss verification processes for validating modeling results.
  • Work with the software development team to design and execute verification process for validating software features.
  • Develop tooling and infrastructure to support automation and validation of operational scoring configurations.
  • Contribute to the development of functional requirements from feature wish lists.
  • Participate in the creation, implementation, management, and execution of QA processes, tools, and supporting technology.
  • Follow Pearson automated scoring team processes, agile practices, code reviews, and motivate his/her team members to do so.
  • Complete project delivery responsibilities on time and accurately and demonstrate accountability to leadership.

Qualified individuals will be required to work with dynamic teams driven by project delivery goals. They should possess the drive to learn and continuously improve on work performance. They must also be detail-oriented and eager to work with peer engineers in producing quality output.

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science or software engineering. Individuals who have a bachelor's degree in mathematics, statistics, data science, physical sciences, or a specialization in the Engineering field will also be considered.
  • Experience with software development lifecycle, testing methodologies and processes including end-to-end development of feature level test plans and test cases.
  • Strong hands-on experience in Python and Shell scripting and comfortable navigating around a Linux system.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Dedicated team player who excels at adapting to change.
  • Self-motivated individual with effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Keen eye for detail and a commitment to excellence.

Experiences that will set you apart:

  • Proven record of accomplishment as a product owner able to prioritize and translate stakeholders' needs into implementable technical requirements.
  • Machine learning familiarity.
  • Good grasp of Go or other similar high-level programing languages (e.g., Java, C/C++).
  • Experience with highly available and concurrent web-based applications and conceptual knowledge with Cloud Technologies such as Docker containers and Amazon Web Services.

Compensation at Pearson is influenced by a wide array of factors including but not limited to skill set, level of experience, and specific location. As required by the Colorado, California, Washington State, New York State and New York City laws, the pay range for this position is as follows:

The minimum full-time salary range is between $80k - $90k.
