Job Description
Minimum Qualifications:
1. Bachelor’s degree in counseling/social work/psychology (official college transcript REQUIRED prior to hire)
2. Qualifying Licenses – QMHP, LPCA, LMSW, LPC, LCSW, LPCS, LCSW/S
3. Valid Texas Driver’s License
4. Ability to pass a background check by agency
5. Able to attend Jail School within the first 12 months of employment
6. Pass a drug screening prior to employment and for continued employment
Supervision Received:
Work is performed directly under the Medical Department Supervisors and supervision allocated by the Jail Administrator.
Supervision Exercised:
Through the requests of inmates or direct requests by supervisors or medical staff.
Job Scope:
Work under general supervision providing inmates with professional Mental Health counseling when requested. Normal work schedule is in person Monday through Friday 8am to 4:30pm with a 30-minute uncompensated lunch break. Have on-call availability by telephone and zoom as needed. Provide Mental Health counseling services to incarcerated individuals (men and women) and work closely with jail personnel, physicians, psychiatrist, and psychologists.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Abilities to deal and communicate effectively with individuals suffering from a range of Mental Health needs and disorders. Willingness to refer individuals to other healthcare professionals. Criminal justice knowledge and/or experience in field.
