The Urgent Care Technician facilitates the patient’s flow into the hospital system. They are responsible for the registration of the patient (dependent upon location), receiving the patient into the clinical area, clerical duties, and assists with patient and health care team needs. The Urgent Care Technician interacts with the patient and/or family, therefore, acting in a professional and courteous manner at all times.
JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Accurately completes the registration process as outlined by the Registration Policy and Procedure Manual.
  • Maintains a working knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to outpatient registration, Systoc registration, order entry, and charge processes.
  • Performs clerical duties related to the Urgent Care Center (to include answering phones, order entry, relay of messages, etc.).
  • Performs clinical procedures within scope of practice (dressing application/changes, splinting, assist with casting).
  • Assist with receiving patients into the system and anticipates needs according to the chief complaint.
  • Documents patient information in the electronic medical record.
  • Performs EKG’s, glucometry, phlebotomy, point of care testing, UDS collections, breath alcohol tests, and other specimen collections.
  • Participates in creation of treatment plan as overseen by the RN.
  • Communicates new orders and change in patient condition to the RN.
  • Must be CPR certified.
  • Monitors and maintains inventory of the department.
PHYSICAL AND SENSORY REQUIREMENTS:
Sit up to 2 hours per day; 1 hour at a time. Stand for up to 8 hours per day; 6 hours at a time. Walk up to 6 hours per day; 10 minutes at a time. Consistently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 lb. Transport patients weighing up to 250 lb. via wheelchair, bed and/or stretcher. Frequently stoop and bend and reach above shoulder level. Must be able to perceive attributes of an object through touch. Must be able to hear as it relates to normal conversation and high/low frequencies. Must be able to see as it relates to general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
EDUCATION:
High school education or equivalent. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand English.
TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
High school graduate or equivalent. Experience working in a clinical setting required. Medical Assistant Training/Certification preferred. CPR certification. Medical terminology.
