WHAT YOU’LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR IN THIS ROLE

The QA Microbiology Lab Supervisor will assist and monitor microbiology lab operations, sample submission and tracking process to ensure all testing is done in timely manner and maintain ISO 17025:2017 standards. The QA Micro Lab Supervisor will provide support and direction to the QA Microbiology Lab Technicians and assist QA Lab Manager in performing the development, maintenance and implementation of the quality systems and food safety programs


  • Train the QA Microbiology Lab technicians on all SOPs, procedures, company policies, GMPs, Monthly food safety topics, and Monthly Company Safety Training.
  • Maintain records and documentation for the ISO 17025:2017 compliance
  • Test samples (products and environmental) using petrifilm, pour plate membrane filtration and PCR methods
  • Provide direction and leadership to QA Microbiology Lab Techs to ensure that standard operating procedures are being followed and provide refresher’s training as needed.
  • Maintain lab supplies stock and perform quality checks on new media/agar lots before testing
  • Arrange technicians’ schedules and oversee time clock edits and maintain lab inventory. Follow audit schedule and respond to daily changes.
  • Review the microbiology data daily, release products and report out any out of specification results.
  • Ensure all instruments are calibrated and schedule calibration when needed.
  • Communicate with appropriate departments about missing samples or errors and review COAs; create COAs as needed.
  • Maintain lab equipment and log any abnormalities and follow corrective actions
  • Participate and manage proficiency program and monitor technician’s competency and perform training when needed
  • Verify daily lab workload is completed and report any abnormalities to the QA Lab Manager
  • Other duties as assigned


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree is required, bachelor’s preferred
  • Must have some background knowledge or experience of working in a lab, preferably microbiology lab
  • Supervisory experience in quality assurance in a food or beverage manufacturing
  • Must have computer skills and ability to utilize standard Microsoft Office Products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
  • Bi-lingual English/Spanish a plus.
  • Valid California Drive License

Additional Required Qualifications:

  • Associate degree or bachelor’s degree in one of the following areas: Food Science, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related area. Equivalent experience in a related field can be substituted for education
  • Must have background knowledge or 3-5 years of experience of working in a lab, preferably microbiology lab
  • Strong communication and organizational skills with a high sense of urgency and flexibility
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality when working with sensitive information
  • Ability to maintain high quality standards with minimal supervision and to bring urgent matters to the attention to proper personnel for immediate resolution
  • Must be goal oriented and results driven and ability to manage multiple priorities

Physical Demands:

  • The work environment for this position will be typical of the manufacturing facility. There are portions of the job that will require working in cold (< 40°F) environments, in warm environments (>90°F), and loud environments.
  • Must be able to work in a wet, cold, or hot environment
  • Must be able to lift at least 30lbs


  • During the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, we recognize that certain “non-essential worker” personnel may at times store consumer-facing materials (including, but not limited to, EADs, coupons, promotional materials, etc.) offsite from Company locations, such as at associates’ homes or in vehicles. All such consumer-facing materials must be maintained in a smoke-free and secure workplace environment.

Hours & Workday:

  • 2nd Shift, workdays will vary (4:00pm-12:30am) when business requires overtime and weekends will be mandatory.
