Job description

The Cultivation QA and Compliance Manager is responsible for the monitoring and execution of the compliance process within a medical cannabis production facility. This role is responsible for supporting, developing, and implementing quality standards,policies, procedures, and programs to ensure the safe and compliant cultivation of cannabis to GACP and GMP standards. 

Cultivation Quality Assurance activities may span the entire production cycle of the plant, from propagation through harvest. The ideal candidate will excel as a team leader and subject matter expert within a medical horticultural environment, where attention to detail is extremely important, and the work is fast paced, mentally demanding, and highly regulated. In addition, this role routinely interfaces and collaborates with Cultivation Managers and staff on quality initiatives and strategy.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Define, establish and implement Quality Management System to ensure compliance with local, state and federal cannabis regulations and industry best practices

• Oversee all internal SOPs and ensure that they are implemented and maintained for compliance with all Federal and State regulatory requirements

• Monitor site’s compliance to Fluent Quality System

• Responsible for all aspects of site Quality System including Documentation Control, Change Management, Training, Internal Audit, Complaints, and Management Review

• Define and monitor Quality metrics to continuously improve Quality processes and support risk and mitigation-based approaches

• Present the Quality metrics and processes’ performance for management review and product reviews, as needed

• Support complaint investigation, field alert reporting and recall requirements for the site; coordinate directly with regulatory bodies, contractors and vendors as needed to ensure compliant handling of products under investigation

• Evaluate and implement continuous improvement processes that improve site Quality systems and operational efficiency

• Reviews weekly inventory audits conducted by facility teams.

• Conducts monthly inventory audits required by 381.986, Florida Statutes.

• Audits BioTrack records to identify trends, errors, and areas of concern.

• Conduct regular compliance inspections, audits, and training relating to compliance with DOH, DACS, and OSHA requirements.

• Confirm accuracy and completeness of logs, including but not limited to those documenting pest inspection, nutrient application, pesticide application, plant counts, and plant destruction

• Confirm compliance with worker protection safety requirements

• Confirm proper maintenance and use of equipment at the facility

• Drafts responses to notices of violation and new variance requests and submits them to Vice President of Legal and Compliance for review.

• Serves as point of contact with DOH, DACS, and other government entities when they conduct unannounced inspections of the facility

• Serve as a point of contact with annual GMP inspection

• Serves as point of contact for site cultivation and processing teams on compliance matters

• Works with Vice President of Legal and Compliance on matters relating to the site’s DOH and DACS licenses

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

This position has supervisory responsibility of the compliance team.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

This position operates in cultivation and manufacturing environments. This role routinely uses cultivation processing equipment and standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

The company will ask you to help out in other departments depending on company needs. This means that you may not always work in the department that you were hired, teamwork and getting product out to patients is the goal and this means helping out where you are needed is crucial to your success as well as the company’s success.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to speak and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand for extended periods; walk; use hands to handle or feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands and arms. {Must be able to individually lift up to 25 lbs}. Regular and predictable attendance is essential.

POSITION TYPE / EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK

This position may and can require long hours and some weekend work.

TRAVEL

Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-the-area and overnight travel may be expected.

Salary

$65000 USD per year

Required Skills

  • Per state law, must be at least 21 years of age.
  • Must successfully complete a comprehensive background check.
  • Must pass a drug screening
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of related full-time work experience or bachelor’s degree in science discipline, i.e. Quality, Chemistry, Engineering, Operations Management, Food Science, Biology, or related field
  •  Must be familiar with BioTrack THC or be willing to undergo training immediately
  • Experience in one or more areas a plus: law/government, compliance auditing, food safety, OSHA, agriculture, and cannabis
  • Knowledge of Florida and U.S. federal laws relating to compliance in the cannabis industry
  • Experience performing supervisory responsibilities or highly responsible work relating to tasks assigned to this position, or any combination of education and experience provided the required skill and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.
