WANTED: PUBLIC WORKS EMPLOYEE
The City of Washburn, ND is accepting applications for a full time Public Works Department Employee.
The Public Works position deals with all aspects of street maintenance, snow removal, city buildings and grounds upkeep; along with water treatment and distribution, sewer treatment and collection maintenance. The job requires on-call availability every third weekend and a rotating schedule of on-call holidays.
The position offers a starting salary range of $24 to $26 an hour with incentives for obtaining associated Water and Wastewater certifications from the State of North Dakota’s Department of Environmental Quality. Responsibilities:
- Work as part of a three person team in the Public Works Department, working under the Public Works Superintendent.
- Maintenance of public buildings involving minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry work.
- A variety of street work such as sweeping, tarring, patching, and snow plowing.
- Working with a sewer jetting machine for sewer plugs and learning the basics of lagoon wastewater treatment.
- Assist with work at the water treatment facility and participate in water line break repair as needed.
- Obtain level 1 certifications for all Water and Wastewater categories from the ND DEQ within the first two years of employment.
Qualifications:
- Mechanical background working with heavy machinery and construction equipment.
- Familiarity with small engine equipment and lawn maintenance tools.
- Prior Water / Wastewater experience would be beneficial but not a requirement.
- Good public relations instincts.
- Willingness to work overtime when required or in the case of emergency.
