This position performs a wide range of public safety work in including law enforcement, crime prevention, fire suppression, rescue, and emergency medical services; and performs related work as required. ****

- Patrols assigned area and preserves law and order through the prevention of crime and enforcement of laws.
- Responds to fire, emergency medical, rescue, and other service calls.
- Responds to calls for service involving traffic accidents, robberies, disturbances, and other misdemeanors and felonies and takes appropriate action including making arrests.
- Investigates crimes against property and persons which include crime scene investigation, the collection and preservation of evidence, the identification and interrogation of suspects, and the pursuit and apprehension of suspects.
- Performs firefighting, emergency medical services, rescue and HAZMAT duties.
- Performs duties related to crime prevention and the correction of public hazards.
- Provides testimony in court related to assigned duties.
- Calculates optimum water pressure and operates pumps.
- Prepares and maintains investigative records.
- Prepares and submits all required reports related to police and fire activity.
- Actively enforces traffic laws through observation, use of radar, traffic checkpoints, and DUI suspicion stops; investigates traffic accidents; takes appropriate enforcement action.
- Develops mastery of City streets, building location, construction areas, fire hydrant locations, etc.
- Operates, cleans and maintains vehicles, apparatus, equipment, and station
- Attend training sessions and seminars to maintain or obtain certifications; participates in drills, demonstrations, and training
- May learn to perform the full range of public safety administrative duties, including, but not limited to, providing administrative and support services, field and on-the-job training, staff development, planning and research, problem resolution, internal investigation, disaster coordination, community education and crime prevention services, and other special duties as they occur or as assigned.
- Performs public education activities such as making presentations and providing demonstrations; participates in community events.
- May provide on-the-job or field training and evaluations for new Public Safety Officers.
- Fosters positive public safety department-community relations.
- Informs supervisor of all work activities and all public inquiries and complaints.
- Adheres to City, Department and shift policies and procedures.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- High School Diploma or GED
- Basic Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE) OR
- Basic Firefighter Structural Firefighter certificate from the Texas Fire Commission and Basic Emergency Medical Technician certificate from the Texas Department of Health Services
- Must be able to obtain either Basic Certification by the Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Officer Standards and Education (TCOLE) OR Basic Firefighter Structural Firefighter certificate from the Texas Fire Commission and Basic Emergency Medical Technician certificate from the Texas Department of Health Services based on department training schedule (depending on which certifications are held at time of hire)
- Must be able to obtain a Texas Class B driver's license within 6 months of employment
- Double or triple certifications preferred
- Required certificates and licenses (once obtained) must be maintained throughout the course of employment
