AddressThe Johnston County Health Department has a Full-time Public Health Nurse II (Communicable Disease Nurse) position open.PHN II with Preventive Health Division. Will work in general clinics as assigned. Requires ability to plan and coordinate program requirements; ability to elicit needed information and maintain effective working relationship with coworkers and community partners.
Work as a team with Communicable Disease staff by identifying, monitoring, and responding to outbreaks. Assure that proper reporting; counseling, education, screening and treatment for communicable diseases are being carried out. Ability to interpret and apply state and local public health laws, rules and regulations.Plan, administer and coordinate services pertaining to the Epidemiology Programs.
Case manage a subset of communicable disease clients. Participate in Infection Control Activities. Implement and maintain follow-up of patients referred from other hospitals, clinics and private physicians related to communicable disease.
Act as liaison between the State CD Section and other county agencies/private physicians to enforce state guidelines. Train new public health nurses employed by Johnston County Health Department according to CD Protocols and related electronic record systems. Work closely as a team with Health Department staff and Communicable Disease nurses to treat and manage care of clients with reportable diseases.
Function in STD Clinic in the expanded nurse role providing screenings of clients. Assist Epidemiology Nurse Supervisor in planning and implementing primary, preventive and rehabilitative care for Epidemiology patients and their families. Home visits are necessary at times.Considerable knowledge of and skill in the application of nursing theory, practices, principles, and techniques employed in the field of public health and related programs; considerable knowledge of and ability to apply the principles and practices of public health; considerable knowledge of available resources and organizations and the ability to coordinate these as needed; general knowledge of current social and economic problems relating to public health.
Ability to plan, coordinate, and supervise the work of others; ability to deal tactfully with others and to exercise good judgment in appraising situations and making decisions; ability to secure the cooperation of clients, to elicit needed information, and to maintain effective working relationships; ability to record accurately services rendered and to interpret and explain records, reports, and medical instructions.Graduation from a four-year college or university with a B. S. Degree in Nursing which includes in a Public Health Nursing rotation and one year of Public Health Nursing experience; or graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing and two years of professional nursing experience including one year in public health; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.Additional Information: Applications will be accepted until the position is filled.
