Job Description
Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial, and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, SWCC offers associate degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking to hire an individual to provide assistance to customers, artisans, students, and others who patronize the Appalachian Arts Center.
Job duties will include:
- Greeting customers in a friendly and polite manner as they enter the center
- Assist customers with requests in-store and on the phone
- Interacting with customers by offering information and assistance about products created by local artisans
- Completing customer transactions by totaling purchases, taking payments, and issuing receipts
- Give guided tours of nationally registered historical building
- Receiving, documents, and inventory merchandise brought in by artisans
- Maintaining cleanliness and order to retail sales floor and events center (general cleaning including dusting, vacuuming, mopping, and trash removal)
- Uploading and maintaining a presence on various social media platforms
- Special event assistance including table/chair set up and tear down, banquet serving set up and tear down, and maintaining cleanliness standards as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Special Assignments
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
KSA's/Required Qualifications
- Ability to prioritize and multi-task when working in a fast-paced environment
- Strong Microsoft computer literacy required with familiarity with POS (Point of Sale) systems and ability to learn new technologies
- Excellent communication skills, both orally and written
- Working knowledge of day-to-day retail business
- Ability to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends
- Ability to lift 20 lbs
