Full Job Description:
Day and Time Commitment
  • TA must be present for the entirety of the class time and which includes a lab following the lecture component of the course.
  • TA will meet with the course instructor of their section throughout the semester and must be available for remote meetings
  • TA is expected to hold office hours for 2 hours each week throughout the semester during a designated TA office hour time.
  • TA must be willing to offer meeting times by appointment to students who cannot attend office hours or who need additional support from the TA.
  • TA may be asked to guest lecture for all or part of a class pending experience/interest (TA is not intended to replace the instructor of record).
  • TA will be expected to work approximately 8-10 hours a week as follows: o Class/Lab: 2 hrs 45 minutes
    o Office Hours: 2 hrs
    o Grading/Prep time: ~ 2-6 hrs
    o Meetings/supervision with instructor: ~ 0-1hr

TA Qualifications
  • Must be a graduate student with satisfactory completion of the required course (received "A" grade in PSYD 721 or equivalent course)
  • Competent with SPSS and other statistical analysis software (e.g. Microsoft Excel)
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills
  • Must be personable and accessible to students
  • Ability to work independently with minimum direct supervision
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of all sensitive information

TA Tasks and Responsibilities
The TA will assist the instructor by performing teaching or teaching-related duties related to the PSYD 721 Statistics for Social Sciences class. The TA will meet with the instructor before the beginning of the semester to review the syllabus and expectations for lab and for lab/homework assignments.
  • TA and instructor will establish communication mechanisms including how/where to record student attendance and participation
  • TA and instructor will collaborate on lab and other homework assignments for the semester. TA may recommend modifying some assignments. Modified assignments must always receive instructor approval
  • TA will develop teaching materials and guidelines for labs (with instructor input and approval, as The TA and instructor will review materials on Canvas to be sure students have access to all the data files needed to complete lab and other homework assignments needed)
  • The TA will provide individual and small group support during the lab portion of class and provide demonstrations using statistical software as needed
  • The TA will be responsible for evaluation of the accuracy of students' homework and provide feedback to students via written and oral communication
  • The TA will track and record student attendance and punctuality and give the instructor input about each student's participation and performance on course assignments.
  • The TA will communicate any student concerns (learning, performance, attendance/punctuality, interpersonal) to the instructor; it is the instructor's responsibility to resolve any student concerns
    Weekly duties may include but are not limited to:
  • Help students install, learn, and use statistical analysis software taught in the course
  • Facilitate labs
  • Provide guidance and feedback during class and office hours
  • Take and track student attendance
  • Provide input to instructor on student participation
  • Review and correct student assignments to inform faculty evaluation and grading
  • Be available to students during outside of lab for extra assistance as needed via email,
    phone, or Zoom/video
  • Performs other related duties as assigned
