Job Description:

No day will be the same as you provide a mix of services including individual counseling; group counseling; crisis intervention; case management; and psycho-educational and outreach programming to students, staff, faculty, and administrators.
Iowa State University’s Student Counseling Service (SCS) seeks a Psychologist to provide direct client care to a dynamic and diverse student population. The Psychologist provides psychological services to assist students in attaining their educational, academic, and personal wellness goals. Candidates will also be expected to work closely with the varying level of student trainees in the counseling center.
The successful candidate will function as a team player and be able to assess, manage, and ensure high quality mental health counseling.
Special Conditions: This appointment is offered on the understanding that the applicant must obtain their full Psychologist license in Iowa within 18 months from the start date.
Example of Duties
Provides individual, couples, career, and group psychotherapy to students in a brief treatment model.
Writes notes and reports on client progress.
Conducts intake interviews of clients and determines appropriate disposition for services.
Assesses client needs and make appropriate referrals to other professionals and community resources.
Provides intervention during client crisis.
Provides outreach presentations and workshops.
Participate in the counseling center training program.
May serve as coordinator of a specific program area as assigned.
Provides crisis coverage on a regular rotation of staff
Level Guidelines
Intermediate-level position with solid professional and/or technical skills working under general supervision to achieve goals
Applies broad, working knowledge of the principles of the field to moderately complex, difficult, and varied problems and issues
Exercises judgment within defined procedures and practices to determine appropriate action and resolve problems
Responds to a broad range of inquiries and requests
May provide training and/or direction to lower-level staff
May lead projects of moderate scope and complexity
Provides guidance to students
This position will be hired at either a Psychologist or Senior psychologist level depending on the candidates’ qualifications.
In addition to the duties above, the Senior Psychologist must have a Doctorate Degree from an American Psychological Association (APA) or Canadian Psychological Association (CPA) accredited program or certified equivalent in counseling or clinical psychology and 1 year of related experience, which may include a doctoral internship. Licensed as a psychologist.
To qualify for the Senior Psychologist position: Candidates must be licensed and obtain an Iowa License within six months of the start date. Pay Grade PS809
This position serves at the pleasure of university administration and is exempt from certain P&S policies.
