Position Summary:

The Psychiatric/ Mental Health Nurse Practitioner will seek to enhance the well-being of people by providing assessment and medication management in a clinical setting, demonstrating psychiatric advanced practice nursing skills in health promotion, diagnosis, and treatment. They will use the process of assessment, diagnosis, management, and evaluation to provide care to address the psychosocial, social, and the spiritual needs of patients.  

The position requires a considerable degree of independent skills and judgment necessary to monitor and respond to changes in client conditions, as well as critical thinking and diagnostic reasoning skills in clinical decision making.  

Areas of responsibility: 

• Perform accurate comprehensive psychiatric mental health examination, concluding with diagnosis and treatment. 
• Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic procedures and tests as indicated/needed by history and psychiatric mental health exam to identify and assess psychiatric issues and health care needs. 
• Develop differential diagnosis based on clinical exams and laboratory data. 
• Provide outpatient psychiatric mental health care. Recognize emergency situations and initiate emergency care/triage, as necessary. 
• Provide individualized client therapy, psych-education, and medication education for identified issues. 
• Initiate referrals and/or consultations as appropriate to achieve an interdisciplinary plan of care including referrals to community agencies. 
• Participate in interpersonal collaborative practice, sharing and receiving referrals from other professionals and maintaining communication with client’s clinician. 
• Complete necessary documentation appropriately and in a timely fashion. This would include case records and billing information in the Computerized Patient Record System (CPRS). 
• Contribute to site specific quality improvement and care provision data collection efforts. 

  Qualifications: 

• Graduation from an accredited College of Nursing 
• Licensure to practice as a Psychiatric/Mental Health Nurse Practitioner or in the State of Utah. Nationally certified as required under state law.  
• A Controlled Substance license and a DEA certification with no disciplinary action 
• Minimum of 2 years of psych experience 
• Demonstration of clinical competence and in-depth knowledge of specialty area, and demonstrated leadership, teaching, and communication skills.   
• Spanish speaking a plus. 
• A contracted position, one day a week. Ideally, the same day of the week.

• Have access to an Electronic Record System to store patient records and ability to submit electronic prescriptions. 
• In person sessions three out of four weeks of the month. One week a month potentially virtual.
