GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
The Division of Criminal Investigation, under the Attorney General's Office, seeks qualified applicants for the Fingerprint Examiner position. This family of positions includes those who perform examinations, identification, and comparisons of fingerprints. Under general supervision, these positions perform examinations, identification, and comparisons of fingerprints. They have no supervisory or budgetary responsibilities. The ABIS Fingerprint Examiner is responsible for a variety of fingerprint duties, including collecting, classifying, examining, and comparing fingerprints.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function which may be performed at the job level.
  • Capture and collect various biological friction ridge impressions such as fingerprints and palm prints through various practices accepted by the fingerprint science community.
  • Examine, classify, and identify fingerprints utilizing accepted methods and practices.
  • Using Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) to process arrest and applicant fingerprint cards received from Wyoming law enforcement agencies and other contributors.
  • Enter, register, and maintain an electronic image database and manual fingerprint files.
  • Plans, prepares, and conducts fingerprint training for a variety of audiences.
  • May be required to testify in court as an expert.

Qualifications



KNOWLEDGE:


  • Knowledge of the principles of fingerprint identification.
  • Knowledge of Automated Biometric Identification System (ABIS) concepts and processing methods.
  • Knowledge of ACE-V methodology.
  • Knowledge of the structure of criminal justice systems at the local, state, and federal levels.
  • Knowledge of privacy act requirements and security and other related rules and regulations.
  • Knowledge of criminal law and the criminal justice system.
  • Skill in oral and written communication.
  • Skill in the operation of personal computers and supporting equipment.
  • Skill in the use of extensive user manuals.
  • Skill in interpersonal relations.
  • Skill in work organization and the ability to work independently.
  • Ability to complete tasks promptly with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to multi-task efficiently and accurately.
  • Ability to work well under pressure with multiple deadlines.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Experience:
No prior experience is required.
OR
Education & Experience Substitution:
3-4 years of progressive work experience (typically in Fingerprinting)
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations:
None

Necessary Special Requirements



NOTES:


  • FLSA: Non-Exempt
  • Ability to travel statewide.
  • Ability to work overtime as required.
  • Successful applicants are required to have a valid driver's license and pass an extensive background investigation.
