What You Will Do
This position will be filled at either the Government Affairs Specialist 1/Government Affairs Specialist 2 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level.
Government Affairs Specialist 1 $63,200 - $99,000

In this role you would interface with customers at the Laboratory. You would be responsible for developing agendas, developing information packets, scheduling presenters, conducting registration, and finding all needed resources for an event.
Government Affairs Specialist 2 $76,900 - $122,200
In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, at this level you would serve as the primary point of contact for customers. You would interact with vendors (hotel, transportation, food etc.) to arrange services for events. You will also partner with security to ensure the correct clearance levels are established and obtained by visitors. Finally, you will coordinate with our visual arts team to ensure that events are documented visually (i.e. photo/video) when needed.
What You Need
Minimum Job Requirements:
Event Planning
For this role you must have at least two years of experience with event organizing and planning (ex. executive meetings, high level customer engagements, foreign delegation meetings, community outreach, receptions, employee recognition and morale events including awards ceremonies and annual meetings).
Relevant Knowledge/Training
For this position you will need to have prior exposure to at least one of the following: government, corporate, diplomatic, or military protocol and/or business etiquette, customer engagement or cultural training.
Software Skills
You must have working proficiency with the Microsoft Office suite of applications specifically Outlook, Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Reliability & Dedication
To succeed in this role you must have a demonstrated record of punctuality and willingness to go the extra mile for customers which may involve occasional travel and/or irregular hours.
Additional Job Requirements for Government Affairs Specialist 2:
In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires:
Industry Standards
At this level you will need to have knowledge of one or more of the following: hospitality industry standards, marketing communications, event/registration software, and/or hotel/catering sales.
Agenda Development
You must have experience leading agenda development by interviewing technical hosts, matching visitor interests with appropriate Laboratory technical programs, and identifying staff to present briefings/tours.
Prioritization & Demeanor
You will need to have the demonstrated ability to work calmly and effectively while managing multiple simultaneous work assignments under the pressure of deadlines, frequent interruptions and changing priorities.
High-Level Officials
For the higher level position you will need to have previous experience interacting with high-level officials.
Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a minimum of 2 years related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Preference may be given for education or experience in hospitality management, business administration, marketing, public relations, or communications.
Education/Experience at higher level: Position requires a Bachelor's Degree and a minimum 5 years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Preference may be given for education or experience in hospitality management, business administration, marketing, public relations, or communications.
Desired Qualifications:
Laboratory Agenda
It would be great if you have knowledge of the Laboratory's strategic goals and commitments.
Protocol
It would be a plus if you were familiar with business, government, and cultural protocol.
Continuous Improvement
It would be a plus if you have a proven track record of procedure improvement or implementation of new processes.

Work Location: The work location for this position is hybrid and is located in Los Alamos, NM. Hybrid is defined as working partially onsite/partially offsite but within 2 hours ground commute of this location. All work locations are at the discretion of management and can change at any time with appropriate notice.
Position commitment: Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the time required, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader. The position commitment for this position is 1 year.

Additional Details
Directive 206.2 - Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2. Please note that this requirement applies only to citizens of the United States. Foreign nationals are subject to a similar requirement under DOE Order 142.3A.
Clearance: Q(Position will be cleared to this level). Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements* for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance. and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad.
*Eligibility requirements: To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. See DOE Order 472.2 for additional information.
New-Employment Drug Test: The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer.
Regular position: Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status.
Internal Applicants: Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. If an employee has not served the required period of continuous service, they may only apply for Laboratory jobs with the documented approval of their Division Leader.
