Job Overview:

Sanford Federal is looking for a Protestant Musician/Organist to provide liturgical (General) Protestant worship services and contemporary protestant worship services for the Marine Memorial Chapel and Marine Corps Base (MCB) in Quantico, VA.

Job Details:

  • Job Title:Protestant Musician/Organist
  • Location: 3251 Embry Loop, Quantico, VA 22134
  • Schedule: Sunday mornings
  • Type: Part-Time

Requirements & Skills:

  • Must have written evidence of at least five (5) years of current experience as an organist in a military chapel or civilian church.
  • Must possess vocal skills including the ability to sing on key and to be able to recognize a basic melody from the musical text. The Musician shall be comfortable singing publicly
  • Must be proficient in playing hymns and service music and in accompanying choirs and soloists.
  • Must be proficient in sight reading hymns from the Armed Forces Hymnal (AFH).
  • Must possess written evidence of the American Guild of Organists (AGO) certification at the basic level, and written evidence of formal training in the organ. This training may have been in the form of college courses.
  • Must be proficient in music harmonization.
  • Must be able to successfully integrate with volunteers who play instruments other than the piano or organ and welcome them as accompanists and/or instrumentalists for liturgical celebrations.
  • Must have a basic familiarity with religious music and be familiar with at least two (2) liturgical music resource-publishing companies. The Musician shall possess an appreciation for both contemporary and traditional church music.

Tasks:

  • Coordinate with the Pastor on all instrumental music and songs for each service and provide instrumentation for all music associated with worship (preludes, postludes, congregational singing, music offertories, anthems, choral music, and service music).
  • Plan the instrumental music for all regular and special services at the Marine Memorial Chapel (MMC) or designated worship location on Marine Corps Base (MCB), The Musician will be provided four (4) weeks in advance, and the music plan for all regular and special/seasonal services (when possible). For services scheduled on short notice, the plan for the instrumental music will be passed to The Musician as soon as possible.
  • Provide all instruments, other than the organs and piano in the Marine Memorial Chapel (MMC) or designated worship location on MCINCR-MCBQ Quantico.
  • Develop, promote, and enhance the choral ministry program in the chapel community.
  • Successfully integrate with volunteers who play instruments other than the piano or organ and welcome them as accompanists and/or instrumentalists for liturgical celebrations.

Working Hours:

Musician hours as noted below:

  • 5 hours of services every Sunday morning.
  • 5 hours of choir practice every Sunday morning
  • 2 hours of practice during the week (to be determined)
