The LCRA Protective Equipment Testing team is looking for a Lab Tester I to help us test equipment that keeps our electricians safe throughout Central Texas. Our testers perform routine testing of electrical Protective Equipment and provide face to face interaction with both internal and external customers. This position allows the right candidate the opportunity to further develop and fine tune skills that will allow them to grow within the department.

You will be trusted to:

  • Perform routine testing on all electrical personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including but not limited to gloves, sleeves, hoods, hoses, blankets, grounding cables, hot sticks, and plastic guards.
  • Follow established American Society for Testing Materials (ASTM), Occupational and Safety Hazard Administration (OSHA) and Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE) test procedures to maintain accuracy and quality of testing.
  • Assist internal and external customers with requests including but not limited to answering phones, taking orders, providing technical information, solving minor problems, pulling and starting jobs, and contacting customers about impending tests.
  • Monitor workload to ensure efficient performance.
  • Complete test reports after each job is completed.
  • Maintain tools, equipment, and facilities used in performance of job duties.
  • Purchase material as needed and within authority limits
  • Handle shipping and receiving through freight company or other carriers (e.g. UPS).
  • Assist with inventory control by issuing, receiving, and pulling material for jobs, and performing automated and manual cycle counts.
  • Unpack, separate items, stock shelves, place materials in proper storage locations.
  • Transport goods by pallet jacks, hand trucks, carts or other material handling devices.
  • Verify/validate materials received against receiving documents. Inspect, note/document and report discrepancies and obvious damage.
  • Attend and successfully complete LCRA/department-specific forklift training and acquire certification within LCRA program. Move materials using forklifts upon acquiring certification.
  • Provide basic and routine technical support to customers who have questions regarding ASTM and/or National Association of Independent Laboratories (NAIL) standards and procedures.

You qualify with:

  • Zero or more years of experience in Protective Equipment Testing, maintaining inventory, coordinating customer service requests and/or scheduling work flow or other relevant experience.
