Accountabilities:
  • The Prospect Researcher will identify, evaluate, maintain and rate a qualified pool of prospects using wealth screening data and other available tools; applies independent judgment to provide analysis of the database and will be responsible for developing processes, policies and best practices, including identification and/or strategic research and analysis of top-tier donor prospects in the support of University Advancement.
  • Accountable for the discovery, identification, and evaluation of a predetermined number of current and future prospects. Responsible for achieving objectives related to prospect identification and assisting with portfolio management.
  • Assist in pipeline development of principal, major, and leadership gifts prospects across constituent types. Conduct focused research and evaluation of financial capabilities of new prospects and existing donors. Identify new potential donors through screening of paid and/or free sources and data mining.
  • Collaborate with the Prospect Management and Research team in developing prospecting projects as the University's needs evolve.
  • Make wealth estimations using salary surveys and other demographic information including insider holdings, real estate, as well as interpreting and analyzing complex financial documents.


Professional Experience/Qualifications
  • Three or more years of related experience in research and/or prospect management for a higher education institution
  • Highly proficient with Microsoft products, including Excel
  • Proficient with Customer Relationship Management databases
  • Demonstrated understanding of donor rights and the distinction between public and private information; scrupulous attention to matters of discretion and confidentiality
  • Demonstrated knowledge of market trends in research resources, such as electronic wealth-screening services and methodologies, news databases, and business directories
  • Demonstrated research, analytical, and problem solving skills
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing
  • Must be able to work collegially and effectively with a diverse group of alumni, students, faculty, and staff on a daily basis

Preferred Qualifications
  • For appointment at the Senior Prospect Researcher level, at least five years of related experience in research and/or prospect management for a higher education institution
  • Demonstrated experience with development databases and donor information services such as Foundation Directory, iWave, LexisNexis, Wealth-X, and other online prospect research tools is preferred
  • Demonstrated experience with Blackbaud Raisers Edge, CRM, or NXT

Education
A Bachelors degree is required.
