Job description

Your Role: What you'll be doing
  • As a Propulsion Systems Engineer for the ULA Software Department, you will be performing requirements development, testing, and debugging of propulsion system software for automated launch site command, control, & communication.
  • You will be applying fluids, thermodynamics, mechanical systems design, and systems engineering principles to develop and test requirements for software that ensures the health and safety of the launch crew and launch vehicle during critical launch operations.
  • You will engage with a highly collaborative team of Product Owners, Technology Architects, Airborne and Ground Hardware Design Engineers, Launch Site Operators, and Software Developers.
  • Provide engineering propulsion and fluids analysis for the Propulsion fluids systems (cryogenic, non-cryogenic, hydraulics, and pneumatics) for ground operations.
  • Perform fluid analyses on various Propulsion Systems, including pressurization systems, feedline systems, propellant systems (both cryogenic and non-cryogenic), and ground systems.
  • Requires fluids analysis capabilities as well as an understanding of propulsion design concepts and software for Propulsion Systems. These analyses include but are not limited to, fluid flow problems such as liquid and gas flow, pressure drop calculations, two-phase flow, heat transfer calculations, waterhammer evaluations, and flow-induced vibration calculations.
  • Ability to perform these analyses independently and mentor other engineers in these types of analyses. Must also interface with other groups, such as Thermal Analysis, Propulsion Design, Flight Software, and Ground Operations.
  • This is a Systems Engineering position. It does not involve writing software code.
  • Operate as part of an agile/scrum software development team, taking features from requirements development through design, implementation, and testing.

Your Background: What skills you'll need
  • A Bachelor's degree in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) field from an accredited college or university is required.
  • 6 years of directly related exempt work experience may be used to satisfy the bachelor's degree requirement.
  • Previous hands-on industry experience.
  • Experience in the design, operation, and software remote control of pneumatic systems & cryogenic fluid systems.
  • Experience with design, operation, and software remote control of hardware systems.
  • Ability to assess and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, specifications, and industry/government standards.
  • Experience with developing requirements and procedures for automated software-controlled operations.
  • Experience in software control system testing.
  • Experience with Systems Engineering of large integrated systems.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Experience teaching and/or mentoring teammates.

Summary Salary Range (Colorado Only)
$134,033 - $209,391
Please note that the salary information shown above is a general guideline only. Salaries are based upon a candidate's experience and qualifications, as well as internal equity, market and business considerations. Employees may be eligible for a discretionary annual bonus in addition to base pay.
