Description
The Land Information and Tax Services department is seeking a Property Tax Supervisor to join the team. This team interacts with residents in person, via email, and over the phone on a wide variety of issues such as general tax information, payments, delinquency, and Tax forfeiture.
Effective December 31, 2023, there will be a general salary adjustment of 2.5% to the minimum and maximum of the range.
Location and hours:
This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Hennepin County Government Center located on 300 South 6th Street, Minneapolis, MN 55487, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin.
About the position type:
This is a full-time, benefit earning position. You must be a of the Land Information and Tax Services department to apply for this position. Limited duration employees are not eligible.
This position is internally classified as a Resident and Real Estate Services Supervisor.

In this position, you will:
  • Supervise Property Tax division staff to carry out the responsibilities of the County Auditor and Treasurer:
    • Select, evaluate, and train staff.
    • Coordinate work assignments.
    • Monitor accuracy of transactions.
  • Accept, maintain, and retrieve legal documents related to real estate and Taxation.
  • Meet with officials (e.g. municipal, county, state, and federal), legal representatives, and the public representing Hennepin County in its statutory responsibilities.
  • Meet with supervisors and managers to plan and coordinate departmental operations.
  • Recommend departmental procedure and policy; develop goals and objectives.
  • Develop plans, strategies and direct implementation for employee retention, customer service/satisfaction, continuous improvement of operations, and employee development.
  • Provide leadership to further department-based strategies that align with county goals, mission and core values for diversity, equity, and inclusion.
  • Need to have:
    • Four years or more of experience managing operations, processes, and/or systems in a government-business records management or service delivery environment and one year or more of supervisory/lead experience.
      • Note: Education in business, public administration, or another field appropriate to the position may be substituted for the operations, processes, and/or systems management experience on a year-for-year basis.

      • Working with Minnesota Property Tax statutes, rules, and regulations.
      • With Optical Character Recognition (OCR) processing of check payments.
      • Developing staff, monitoring employee performance, identifying training needs/enrichment opportunities, and overseeing disciplinary matters.
      • Establishing written procedures and performance measures.
  • Knowledge of diversity and inclusion strategies with a focus on disparities reduction.
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing priorities, demands, and timelines.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with all levels of the organization and contribute in a team environment.

    Land Information and Tax Services is a department within the Resident Services Line of Business of Hennepin County that covers foundational responsibilities of government: land surveying, land recording, Property Tax collection and distribution. We also provide critical infrastructure and innovation support to departments throughout Resident Services.
